It was our last few hours in NOLA and we wanted one last experience at good food before we departed. After a quick breakfast search on Yelp, we decided to partake in eating at Cafe Fleur De Lis.
The location was about a 0.5 mile walk from the hotel so we went! Cafe Fleur De Lis sits in the center of all the action. The ambiance of the area itself has an historic feel and makes the overall experience even better. I would def suggest you walk to it if you are close enough.
Walking into Cafe Fleur De Lis you are met with a vibrant white and black primary color theme that is brought to life with the gorgeous artwork that hangs on the walls. I’m talking picture after picture of visual excitement. Take it in…
Back to the experience, you are immediately at the host stand when you walk in. The staff were all working, however, it only took about two minutes for someone to greet us and take us to be seated. Once seated, the waitress immediately came over and was all smiles, cheer, and warm welcome. I asked if they had Sweet Tea and to my mouthwatering pleasure, THEY DIDDDDDDDD. Omg!!!!!! I was so excited as the last few places ONLY had Unsweetened Tea… Back to Cafe Fleur De Lis. LoL!!! I placed my order for my Sweet Tea and she gave us a few minutes to explore the menu.
The menu itself is one sided and has breakfast as well as lunch items. Though a one sided menu is not something I’m accustomed to, I wasn’t mad at the approach as you can tell it is themed as more of an eatery, as well as they made good use of the space by putting some true thought into the options presented.
I decided to get the Creole Country Breakfast WITHOUT Eggs and I substituted the Smoked Boudin with Bacon.
After placing our order I was once again lost in the artwork. LoL. However, it didn’t take long for my order to arrive and the food was Fresh.
The Grits: When I say these were the BEST Grits I have ever had in my whole adult life. Listen here, these creamy ground yellow grits needed nothing added to them. They were thick, creamy, and seasoned to maximum perfection. Goodnesssssssss. Blessed is the hands of whomever stirred this pot of grits.
The Bacon: Thick. Meaty. Great cut of meat. Perfectly cooked. Crispy on the edges. Also, the salt level of this bacon was perfect. It’s not normal that I don’t have to pat the bacon with a napkin to absorb some of the salt and grease, however, this bacon understood the assignment. LoL.
The Biscuit: Oh baby!!!!! This biscuit didn’t come from no can. Shout out to auntie in back kneading the dough that creates this dough based buttery art of baked perfection. 😜
The service was good. The pricing was good. The ambiance was good. And, the food was AMAZING!!!!!!!! Cafe Fleur De Lis was the perfect way to end my trip.
Much love to the team! Special thanks...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place and look into many reviews. Unfortunately our experience wasn't a good one. I ordered the big breakfast and my husband ordered the eggs benedict. I noticed they had an "infamous" espresso with baileys that caught my eye on the menu so I ordered one for 13$. My drink came and it was cold and in a regular coffee mug and just looked unappealing. It tasted just like cold coffee with liquor. No garnish & poor presentation. When our food finally came my hash browns, toast and sausage were burnt. I love extra crispy and tried to eat them anyway, but the burnt flavor was too overwhelming. They brought my husband eggs florentine rather then benedict. The server did not return, so my husband had to call out to her after she took another order for a table near us. I needed syrup and butter for my pancakes, toast and biscuits, unfortunately she didn't give me a chance to ask while going to correct the eggs benedict. It wasn't till she brought back my husbands order that I was able to ask for butter and syrup. By then my pancakes and biscuits were cold and toast was cold and hard. We couldn't enjoy our meal together. When it is time to pay they bring you a card reader to the table were you can barely see what you ordered only the total. We noticed that it was 60+ for just both of us and after tip 76$. They don't offer a receipt till after you pay. When I saw the itemized receipt, I noticed they charged us for biscuits, gravy and sausage. They did remove the charge but, you have to wonder how many others get overcharged without knowing. The table next to us also had issues including missing items and cold coffee. If I can suggest: cups will absorb the heat of the coffee, so putting hot water from the coffee maker spout to warm the cup up can help with cold coffee. Small business pointers can help keep your customers happy. I also noticed that there are many reviews were people really wanted to enjoy this location and we're truly disappointed after so many great experiences in NOLA. If you want to grow a genuine local business this feedback should matter. When reading reviews you can tell ALOT from a business that responds and acknowledges feedback. A business that doesn't find these things important is just another hole in the wall place that will never rise above the competition or make their investors and true believers proud. This place is beautiful and has so much potential...
Read moreWhat a disappointing restaurant. We arrived and were sat among all dirty/sticky tables and the table we were given I literally couldn’t slide into because the tables were all jumbled right on top of each other. I literally had to move a table so that I could slide into my seat that’s how close the tables were. Maybe a 2 inch gap.
It was clear that every single staff member from the host, to the servers, to the bussers were overwhelmed. The place was a gross mess.
Our server was slow to come to our table, my drink took forever, food came out cold and also took forever. Then to get the basic breakfast sauces like syrup for my pancakes or ketchup for my hashbrowns was like pulling teeth. There was also a short black hair in my eggs, but my server never returned to check on us so I wasn’t able to tell her. I tried to flag her and the host down a couple times with no success.
Patrons were having to ask each other for sauces and sugars. I had to give my ketchup to my neighbor and he had to give his sugar to his neighbor as well.
Then the host sat someone at the table right next to us, mind you this isn’t a community seating style of restaurant. This woman was sitting 3 inches from me. The host joked said it we were sitting “European style” I mentioned this isn’t my favorite way to be sat. I didn’t ask to sit at the bar with other guests, I wanted to enjoy my breakfast with my partner and not strangers at a table of our own. The host did move the other customer but then she sat another person who’s LEG WAS TOUCHING MINE for the rest of my time there. How uncomfortable.
I have never in my life not left a tip. I mean never. But this was an absolute mess of a restaurant and frankly the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Y’all completely...
