EDIT: in response to the comment below, I would like to state that I wouldâve paid any fees required but since neither the OWNER, any staff member nor website told us about the fee and advance written permission, to simply apologize in such a nonchalant manner is truly disgusting as I lost out on pictures with my husband and loved ones that I will NEVER get.
have truly struggled to find the words to describe my visit here. My now husband and I decided to hold a âmicroâ wedding with 10 of our immediate family members. We knew that we wanted to stay at this hotel to both support a local business during a tricky time as well as take advantage of the beautiful property for our pictures. We had decided that Hotel P&P would be ideal for family portraits as well as a âfirst lookâ. Funnily enough, we had never wanted to do a âfirst lookâ but only decided to because we would not be taking engagement pictures and wanted to use the gorgeous hotel as a backdrop for pictures weâd hopefully treasure for a lifetime. After reaching out to the hotel, we were welcomed for a tour by an owner who showed us various rooms which might photograph best for âgetting readyâ pictures, as well as common areas around the hotel which were popular for wedding photographs. We were very thankful to the owner as well as the numerous hotel staff members we would later consult as we booked rooms for ourselves and other family members. On the day of our wedding, as I stood in my wedding dress, bouquet in hand, ready for a âfirst lookâ with my groom, I was told by our photographer that a manager by the name of Mac rudely explained to her that would not be permitted to take photographs outside of our room as we did not have a âpermitâ. I was immediately dumbfounded and upset because we were never told that a permit or anything at all was required to take pictures. Additionally, this was not relayed to us by the owner or any other members of the staff that we had spoken to in preparation for the day. While I kept a smile on my face and moved along, our very strict timeline had been skewed. We managed to move some furniture around in one of the rooms for a first look with my Dad and my groom, we did not have the space or time to take the family portraits I had envisioned. Instead of the beautiful portraits I had planned, utilizing Hotel P&Pâs beautiful, lofty common areas, we had to take family portraits inside the small private room where our wedding brunch was held, crammed in front of a random picture on the wall with no natural lighting. I also felt terrible as I had requested our 10 (mostly elderly) family members drive to the Hotel that morning for the ONLY purpose of taking family pictures. We spoke with a GM and another staff member the next day who were both confused about the aforementioned âpermitâ that we were not told of. They both apologized profusely and the staff member even stated âthat wouldnât have happened if I had been thereâ. We received a one night stay as compensation for the pictures we missed out on and for the 5 hotel rooms we booked for no reason. The GM offered to have us back for pictures, but that would require an incredible amount of effort and resources a la rebooking a makeup artist, hair stylist, flowers, photographer as well as having everyone take more time out of their busy schedules or travel from out of town to take the pictures we were supposed to take on my wedding day. I am thankful that we were able to get a few snaps in one of the rooms, but the white walls and edge of a gingham curtain do not justify the money we spent on hotel rooms or the pictures we lost out on. If you, like me, are a Bride who is booking here because you either want to utilize its beauty and/or have nowhere else to snap beautiful family portraits, please reconsider booking here as there is no guarantee that they will not try to pull something like this again. We will be returning the one night stay voucher and will have to treasure the...
Read moreI was excited to stay here and planning a positive review. But a few things in particular have led me to unfortunately have to affirm this is barely a 3 Star experience. ||First and foremost YOU NEED TO TRAIN YOUR FRONT DESK STAFF. I've experienced more hospitality at an airport Best Western. ||I was better trained working retail and in restaurants part-time than these people were. You walk in to check-in with no greeting. The staff stares at you dead-eyed. No smile. No hello. This continued the entire stay - while the cleaning staff and restaurant staff were wonderful (truly, they're great), it seems management has not even discussed the basics of hospitality with the front desk staff who, ironically, are the direct point of contact for guests. We did not receive a single "good morning" or "hello," just silence. Two staff members in particular behaved as if we were greatly inconveniencing them by checking in or asking for recommendations nearby (we were tossed a pamphlet with restaurants on it, no personal touch whatsoever). This continued throughout our entire stay - not a smile, not a greeting, not an inquiry into how our stay was going. Even more alarming was that when we brought this up to the rest of the staff - they all agreed with us and told us to complain! I'm sure they are losing out on tips due to the obscene lack of hospitality at the front desk. ||Let's get to the hotel itself- it's nice, and the interior design is stunning, but it's not worth the money. One main building is separated by a very ugly driveway from the restaurant and Church venue. In this brick driveway they had often set up wedding events with cheap plastic chairs. When there was no event, there is zero seating. The only common space is indoors on the 3rd floor, where there is no service, not even a functioning water station. In addition to this, there's no room service which is strange considering there's a restaurant on the property - not even a limited menu is offered, you can't even order a Coke. ||On to the restaurant - it's the only reason to stay here. The food is phenomenal, the staff warm and welcoming, the space serene. It makes me wonder if it is under different management altogether. My recommendation - visit New Orleans and make The Elysian Bar a must-visit spot on your itinerary, but don't stay here. ||TLDR: it's all style, no substance at Hotel Peter and Paul. They seem to have forgotten that a good hotel is all about a warm and welcoming hospitality experience. The front desk staff is in desperate need...
Read moreIâll start with the positives. Itâs a gorgeous and unique property. Overall, the staff at Hotel Peter and Paul were greatâspecial thanks to Vaughn and Ayanna at the front desk, and Madeline at Elysian. The Marigny location is very convenient: only about a 5-minute walk to Frenchmen Street and a 15- minute walk to the heart of Bywater. The neighborhood is residential and quiet and itâs a nice break from the ruckus of the French Quarter. Itâs a rare hotel property in a neighborhood dominated by short-term rentals. There are plenty of local coffee shops, restaurants and bars (Ayu, Who Dat, R Bar) within blocks. The hotelâs decor is thoughtfully designed, perfect for travelers who enjoy an independent boutique vibe.||The beautifully repurposed building poses some challenges with noise. ||Central to the charm, the hotel is housed in an old school. They did a great job making the most of the footprint. That means some rooms â all interiors are greatâarenât in an ideal location. Our Schoolhouse Classic was located right off the lobby and next to the lobbyâs single, public restroom. ||Unfortunately, when we were in our room the noise was relentless. Our room was also next to the elevator. which meant we dealt with constant disturbances at all hours. We could hear people loudly chatting in the hallway, doors slamming, and the elevator dinging repeatedly throughout the day and night. No chance of getting some rest during the day. A steady stream of groups using the single public restroom caused the door to open and slam over and over again. On our first night, one wedding guest took over the bathroom, yelling for others to join him in the âWCâ for hours.||At over $400/night, this experience fell far short of expectations. We expected a much more peaceful stay given the hotelâs reputation, marketing and price point. Itâs disappointing that the hotel didnât warn us about how noisy the roomâs location could beâsurely they know how disruptive that location is. The hotel was fully booked so switching rooms wasnât an option. Had we known in advance, we would have made other arrangements.||Bottom Line||If you plan to stay at Hotel Peter and Paul, avoid Room 103 (and probably the other rooms that are off the lobby) at all costs. I highly recommend calling ahead to inquire about your roomâs location. The property is beautiful and the staff are wonderful, but our experience was impacted by the unrelenting noise. It simply was not worth...
