I’d be in serious trouble if I lived nearby I Ayu Bakehouse. Like for real, the pastries are chef’s kiss. Flakey and soft, and crunchy all in the right spots. Luckily, we were here just for the day, but we tried enough to get a good idea of which goodies we really loved. I ordered the pain au chocolates, which was good, but probably would’ve been next level if it were heated a tad, because I got some solid chocolatey bites. But I ain’t mad about it. I ate the whole thing! In fact, I moved onto their next twist on a NOLA staple, a muffuletta breadstick. Think of all the fixin’s in the classic sandwich twisted into a breadstick. Sounds good right?yep, sure was. My only regret was I never finished the whole thing because I left it out overnight and forgot about it for a day. The next item was my absolute favorite, a massive croissant, filled with a peach champagne filling, topped with a white chocolate Bavarian cream. Oh. My. Word. Your aunt Edna would be telling her Sunday bible study group all about that one time she had the best croissant in New Orleans; that’s if your aunt Edna had this croissant. It was that good. Lastly, I had their latte (1 shot espresso, with whole milk). That latte was done to perfection. Highly recommend Ayu Bakehouse!!

Opened in 2022, this woman-owned bakery is worth a stop. Inside a beautiful corner building in a historic neighborhood within walking distance from the French Market, there's often a well-deserved line, but it moves quickly. Popping in for the first time, my wife, mother-in-law, seven-year-old daughter, and I bought a wide selection of pastries to split so we could try them all. Literally, every pastry we ordered was delicious. The muffaletta breadstick is literally a long breadstick filled with olives, salami, and more. It's savory. The chocolate babka knot was our seven-year-old's favorite. The kaya bun's texture and slight coconut taste was great. The "Shroom Boom" is mushrooms inside croissant dough. The seasonal vegetable open-faced sandwich was a cucumber one and in the heat was refreshing. The winner was the "Boudin Boy," croissant dough with boudin sausage and a boiled egg. It comes with chili and peanut oil sauce and it's so good. We all will be back for just that. There's space inside to sit and a few outdoor tables. Two all-gender restrooms are in the back. There's a water tap with glasses by the coffee bar.

A top-notch bakery that masterfully combines classic pastries with their own creative twist. The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming—when we visited right at opening and were indecisive, they kindly offered us a freshly baked chive scone to try. It was absolutely delicious—the balance of chive was spot on, and the parmesan added a deep, savory umami finish that lingered beautifully. We also tried the chocolate babka and the coconut jam swirl. The babka was truly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten—bittersweet, intensely chocolatey, with an irresistibly crunchy texture. I’d choose it over a chocolate croissant any day. The coconut jam swirl had a soft, fluffy dough with just the right amount of coconut flavor—not overly sweet, but rich and unique. Seating is available both indoors and outdoors. While indoor space is limited, the turnover is fairly quick and worth the short wait. The outdoor area is equally enjoyable, especially on a nice day. The coffee was also great—overall, this spot is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in New Orleans.

Visit Ayu Bakehouse, you won't regret visiting... but you will regret NOT visiting! You can also order online if not local anymore.

The delicious and game changing Queen Bee king cake arrived in all her glory! Thank you thank you for sharing this Queen Bee 🐝 filled with local love to us! We are a small but mighty urban farm with beehives and other local produce. So, it was an honor to find your bakery. It's vital to source and utilize local ingredients when possible. Not to mention, you can never go wrong with citrus and honey! So, supporting a local Bakery who sources local ingredients, while creating seasonal flavors with local ingredients... is a Bakery to GET BEHIND!

The Queen Bee herself was a gastronomy lovers delight. Our family may be used to the classic king cake and I am thrilled to have introduced them to their first non traditional king cake.

We normally try new spots every year, without repeat, but not Ayu! We plan to order another from you this season (if not sold out online). We will be back year after year.

Thank you for going above and beyond. While creating a memorable experiences for our New...
