Okay - after eating here I went into a food coma. It was probably a bad idea to go to Dat Dog after spending the evening bar-hopping on Bourbon Street. So, my eyes were larger than my stomach.

You order in a line. They have a variety of sausages - all different types. You select the meat, select from dozens of toppings (too many to choose from), pay, and they call you when it's ready.

I ordered a Hot Sausage with a few toppings and fries. They have a variety of toppings you can get on your fries, too, but I skipped them. It took about ten minutes for the five of us to have our order ready. I have to say the sausage was outstanding. It was spicy, crisp (I had it grilled), and juicy. The fries were also very good.

Had I stopped there, it would have all been okay. But, no, I had to have more. So, I tried there Alligator sausage. No fries this time. And, that was good. It was a bad idea to order a second. If I had fries too, I probably would have exploded. The alligator sausage had a different texture - more coarse, a little less flavor, and was not as juicy. But in its own way it was also very good.

So, after finishing the second sausage I felt full and ready to go. We all left, but that full feeling continued to grow. It was late, but it ended the night for me.

This is a must try - in particular if you have ever been to Hot Doug's in Chicago. But, trust me, when you make your choice - eat...

Only eat here if you make the hotdogs yourself. This place almost killed me and my family with the worst case of food poisoning I've experienced and witnessed. The cheapest liquor never had me throw up like that. Had us out of commission from homeostasis for two weeks. On November 2nd 2023 I picked up 4 hotdogs(the alligator sausage for my mother in law, the crawfish sausage for my wife, I had the sea dog special, my children had the Chicago dog) all came out to like $57 which took about 50 minutes to have ready with only one man cooking and a few people there. I had some of the Chicago dog my children had which had my daughter throwing up persistently before she was falling asleep, I woke up at 3 am with the worst headache and had to purge my insides all night throughout the next day to the next couple nights. My son started throwing up the next day which last for a week. Had our breaths smelling like worst rotten hot dog. We all had to go through an intense detox. I contacted the restaraunt on Frenchmen st last week on the phone, alarmed the manager about what happened, she informed me the gm will come in the next day to handle this. I never received a word. Noone answers the phone anymore. I emailed Laurie Fisher of marketing and said she forwarded the message to the GM Robert and Director of Operations Henry. You guys should absolutely pay me back for having to pay for...

Run, don’t walk, to the closest Dat Dog to you and get at least twice as many dogs as you think you want so you can try them all! We went to the one on Frenchman St because we were looking to sit on a balcony, but it wasn’t open because they were understaffed. We sat inside and enjoyed every single bite. First of all, equip yourself with ALLLLL the napkins. This is about to get messy. We got three dogs: Rougarou (Alligator Sausage, Grilled Onions, Creole Mustard, Tomatoes, Jalapenos, Barbecue Sauce, & Bacon) Sea Dog Special (Beer-Battered Cod Fish, Onions, Tomatoes, Homemade Tartar Sauce, & Yellow Mustard) and created our own (beef hot dog, slaw, yellow mustard, chipotle mayo) and all three were incredible. The Rougarou is a little spicy, has a ton of flavor, and the creole mustard is perfection. I would ordinarily not go for bbq sauce on a hot dog but it didn’t overwhelm it. The alligator sausage was delicious and the perfect size for the large buns these dogs come on. The Sea Dog was like a great fish sandwich. In creating our own, the flavors were what we wanted, I would just say the beef dog is significantly smaller then the other two we had. Overall I can’t wait to go back and loved all three of the dogs we got; next time I plan on trying even more. This place knows what they are doing!!!

Also there’s a full bar here so you can indulge in...

This bright and vibrant restaurant has become a New Orleans staple. I first heard of these amazing hot dogs from friends of a friend - some metropolitan ladies from the west Louisiana who drive all the way here!— and I’ve been a fan ever since. It’s been a quick carnival season, and I was reminded of this spot during the fabulous Marigny Bywater new parade known as the “Meat Parade.” Even though I was attending a “meat parade” I could not resist the spectacular hot dogs and condiments. The woman who took my order was so friendly even though it was 12:07 and the kitchen had closed while the people in front of me asked a number of questions about the delicious hotdogs here. The service from Emily was especially friendly. I hope to enjoy more parades here during carnival season and do also dine here year round. Everything including the restroom was exceptionally clean for this heart of down town location; the staff wore gloves while preparing food. As a vegetarian I really enjoyed the tator tots, and my friend loved her Son of a Saint Dog. My only criticism is that this is a missed opportunity for a live music venue, as I am in a band and would be psyched to play some hotdog tator tot themed duets. The staff here are hard workers!
