Great look and vibe but the food was lackluster in the service was pushy. Not something you would expect when they advertise themselves with the word “Lounge” in their name.
There were four of us, and this was our first visit. It was early in the evening on New Year’s Eve so possibly some of the issues were related to that. Later that evening, they were shutting down for a VIP event. We arrived at 5:30 PM several hours before anything was to commence.
When we walked in, and we were excited To see how it was set up. It had a great look, and a great vibe, which was very inviting. We were initially confused as it was almost difficult to find the entrance, but in hindsight, that was a positive because it felt like it was a secret.
If it was just for the ambience, this would be a five star review. The drink menu is creative and very interesting. My first drink, earth, was excellent but overall I would say the preparation was inconsistent. There were a number of drinks we ordered several times, and each time it arrived with a completely different flavor and palette. That should not happen with a craft cocktail bar, especially at a premium price.
We were intrigued to try the food as we had viewed a number of their offerings on their social media but we learned that the menu was paired down due to New Year’s Eve. Not unexpected but also that was not specified anywhere online or at the time of reservation. Our intention was to have a number of small plates only to learn there were two choices, one of which was lackluster, the puff puff.
We noticed a number of the other entrées came with french fries. And although this has never our preference at a location such as this, we asked one of the servers if we could just purchased two side orders of fries, as there were limited appetizer choices, and we intended on having a larger meal later in the evening. we were told she could accommodate that but after 20 minutes, we inquired with our other server on the status of those fries and were roughly told that side orders were not possible. The excuse was that they needed those for the VIP event later in the evening. Beyond the fact that we received two different responses to our request. The fact that we were not able to receive two small side orders of fries because of the availability was Ludacris. Every order we saw past our table, seemingly had a side of fries, and to be honest if I was going to pay the prices for the VIP event, I don’t think Fry availability would’ve been my concern.
We interpreted this to mean that they wanted us to order an entrée if we wanted fries. We decided to try their burger and their duck poutine, both of which were accompanied with fries to the side. I will say the burger was it was very good, but the duck was frankly terrible and the fries were relatively generic.
Lastly, was the service. The hosts were excellent, and seemed excited about the evening but our servers weren’t as such. The entire time we were there we felt rushed to make decisions as we were being questioned, over and over. There seem to be an err of arrogance as well. And to be honest, I normally don’t have an issue with that, as we like many places, because of that feel, but at that moment they had not earned the right to be arrogant at all. Again, the feel seem to be counterintuitive to their own business model that stresses the word “Lounge!”
I will chalk up the issues to it being New Year’s Eve. We will definitely return and try Jolie again with the hopes that the food, drinks and service,...
Read moreYelp score is under 4 stars. Google maps is misleading. Don’t come here.
Where do I even start? Food 1/10 | Service 0/10 |Ambiance 1/10 - the music didn't fit the aesthetics and felt like I was in a Brazilian club.
This business is not run well at all. Don't even get me started as someone who's worked in restaurants for over twenty years. This place won't last long.
Don't make a reservation and expect to be sat when you arrive. I waited over 35 minutes to be sat and was told "it'll be ten minutes" by the host when I arrived. Once 25 minutes passed we were offered " a complimentary glass of champagne" for our wait - neither of us drink champagne and this was not sufficient after being lied to about the wait.
If I would have been told it was a 30 minute wait - I would have left and went somewhere else but they wasted my time on my honeymoon and possibly served us the worst food we've had all week.
Then after being sat by the manager who threw our menus on the table and walked away without saying anything we asked to speak with the manager..we were told "Other people were 30 minutes late for their reservations so it put everyone behind." First mistake. Do you know how to run a reservation table?
Then here they come again with complimentary drinks that we didn’t order or were even asked what we want. Don’t bring drinks to a table when you don’t even know the persons allergies. Just CARELESS!
I'm sorry but if you're more than 15 minutes late to your reservation...your table is gone and you're out at the back of the line. No exceptions. Be on time or lose your spot. Don't impede every other reservation because a few people don't have time management skills. Learn how to run a restaurant.
There is no excuse to how poorly this place this run and how it's "doing too much" all together.
The food - highly disappointed. Waited 70 minutes just to get "duck poutine" which was 95% fries and little to no gravy, and tasted bland. Ended up leaving early and taking food off the bill that never arrived after two hours of waiting. Half of what we ordered they were out of but if I was sat at my reservation time they wouldn’t have been. Just overall a horrible dinner and experience and will never return.
I will also be writing the Eater editor who placed this business on a listicle of best places to eat and advise them to remove...
