After planning a trip to NOLA, I was pretty much revolving around seeing a video of this place. we were excited to go with the video appearing to be an upscale NOLA vampire theme. Upon arrival this was not the case the we had been advised to make a reservation but that it was not required we placed one for 7pm only to arrive and get told oh we don't actually do reservations. We still got a table there were only 6 of us the table was in shambles starting to fall apart and was so wobbly that you couldn't touch it and some of the chairs were no better with specifically my chair having no cushion. After sitting down in this very dimly lit atmosphere, the waitress Holly brought us water in cheap off brand solo cups first red flag. At that point, before she left, we started placing orders for drinks (I even asked the waitress about off menu drinks she would recommend only to get a reply if there isn't anything) and appetizers That was the last time we saw our server at our table for about 15 minutes when she brought the drinks. We waited another 15-20 min for the appetizers to arrive, and portions were mediocre at best for the price. we tried to order additional appetizers only to be told, "we are out of those." So we just placed our orders my wife and I ordered steaks one ribeye and one filet and our party ordered 2 alligator po boys and two vampire burgers we socialized for another 30 min before someone not even our server started bringing out our food to start the burgers looked great and were said to be good for a burger, that's the only good review we have. the po boys that were 90% bread and definitely made for "po boys" with the bare minimal filling and the taste not being up to par for the price then there is the steaks 1 they didn't even give us steak knives then 2 my wife asked for A1 and was told we only have ketchup and mayo mixed together... ya no... the steak (ribeye) wasn't even edible, and the mashed potatoes were easily comparable to hospital food. Then there was my filet this was so tough I could barely cut it with the utensils supplied then once I was able to try it, it was over cooked extremely and the taste could only be described as breakfast sausage verified by several at the table. My wife flagged down the waitress (who still had not even tried to check on us) to return her steak, which the waitress did but only grudgingly. We mostly socialized instead of eating since the food quality was so poor, and we figured we would at least receive the check soon, but no that would require our server to actually attend us when we finally flagged her down she did not really want to do split checks and told us she would be back in a little while once it was. After waiting 15-20min I decided to just walk up and tell them I'd cover the check in whole just so we could leave only to be told it would still be a few minutes when the massive check came with the automatic gratuity included it was the last straw. The service was not worth an additional 20% at all at this point we deicide to speak to the manager and inform her that we were not paying gratuity at this point the manager stated that she could discount our food but could not remove the gratuity so we paid and left however I want it to be know I would have paid for the food that we didn't even eat if that gratuity scam was removed. I would not recommend this place at all. Edit- after posting this review the discount that was removed by the manager was recharged to my debit card I will be reporting...
Read moreI am so torn on writing this review, but it needs to happen. My family and I traveled to New Orleans to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday. We stopped in on 06/23 for dinner because both of my daughters had been wanting to experience this restaurant/bar. The aesthetic was cool, just as expected, and after all, it was initially what we were going there for to begin with.
To be fair, It should be noted that it was a busy night and there was one particular table that was extremely loud and obnoxious the entire time, which made the entire dining experience a little less than enjoyable for everyone in the restaurant.
We had a party of 6 and there wasn’t a table immediately available so we sat at the bar, bartender was amazing. We got a round of drinks (blood bags) and only waited about 10-20 min for a table, no big deal. Once seated, our server was with us pretty quickly was very attentive and friendly and remained so throughout the entire experience. The food. The food was the problem. We ordered two Gator poboys plates, two hamburger plates, and I got the salad. Both gator poboys had very little “gator” on them mostly just lettuce tomato and sauce. I had ordered the spinach salad which came out much smaller than I anticipated (for a $15 salad) and it was served so warm, that the cheese crumbles were almost melted. The dressing was NOT good at all, took two bites and pushed it away… I was about to complain to the waitress about my salad when one of my daughters noticed what she thought to be mold on her hamburger bun. Because of the lighting we used our phone lights to try to see what it actually was before calling our server. The server came right over and offered to remake the burger, or order something else, she chose the shrimp and grits. In hindsight, I wish I had told her about my salad too, but we didn’t want to be “those people”. Because it was so loud and chaotic, we ended up having the server bring the shrimp and grits to go. We did purchased two of the souvenir teacups which were $30 each, but our bill totaled $260 after tip. Completely NOT worth it. I’m so so sad this happened. This was probably the WORST experiences we have ever had together as a family (food wise). Only one person in my party didn’t have an issue (also a burger) but joked later that it was probably because it was dark and she didn’t see the mold if...
Read moreAfter having a reasonably good experience at the vampire apothecary, I was looking very forward to having brunch here. This was the most disappointing experience of my entire vacation. The coffee is great. The mimosa was average. The avocado toast was edible. The shrimp and grits was less than impressive. But what was truly horrific was our experience with the service. The hostess was pleasant enough seated us Without waiting very long in a corner table by the kitchen. Our server was a bald guy in glasses. He clearly did not have time for us. We saw him 3 times at our table. When we weren’t exactly sure what I wanted to drink after my partner ordered a coffee, He walked away, stating in a mumble he would give us a few minutes. When he came back to place our food order, he did not even acknowledge that I had ordered A mimosa, leaving me unsure if he’d even heard me. Eventually, did wordlessly sit down a mimosa and quickly walked away. The one saving grace was there was a very nice server. She actually ended up paying more attention to us than he did and we weren’t even her table. We saw our server for one last and final time when he delivered our food. After that, there was the nice lady that did come and check on us. She refilled my mimosa at no cost because she could tell that we were being ignored. She refilled my partners coffee. We were very, very ready to get our check, and even though our server was standing right beside us, as he was at the edge of the bar, he never acknowledged us. Finally, the nice server came over and we were able to request our check. Our server had lost our ticket. So after a few more minutes elapsed, she just reentered our order into the computer system, and printed us a new one. I hope she got the tip I left. She’s the reason this place got two stars instead of one. I would understand if we were rude or hateful, but we were very polite to our original server and to the one that actually was noticing us. In summary, check out the vampire apothecary. The drinks were good though on the expensive side. The bartenders are funny. The atmosphere there is much nicer. I would avoid the vampire Café like the plague. The speakeasy is OK. But the experience there did not justify the $20 cover charge. Do yourself a favor avoid that trap and stay at The bar you have to walk through to get to the speakeasy. It’s...
