This shop is beautiful and seems as if it is very authentic to voodoo. However the saleswoman was very condescending and treated me as if all my questions were insipid or pointless.
I went in with the intention of finding something related to motherhood or pregnancy as I am pregnant and thought it might be nice to have something representative or protective related. I asked for this exact thing and the saleswoman immediately was very rude and defensive, saying things like “voodoo isn’t bad!! Even children come in here” lady I never said it was and in face I AM IN HERE. Why would I even enter the store if I wasn’t open and curious about its nature? Her entire attitude towards me anytime I tried to ask open ended questions was dismissive and defensive. I simply asked if the different appearances or methods of making the voodoo dolls held any meaning as there seemed to be so many different iterations. I don’t feel this is an offensive question. I was also curious about the deity dolls such as Dantor and wanted to know more and she said rudely as if I was dumb “that’s a Dantor doll!” Yes ma’am I can see that with my own two eyes, I was just hoping you’d tell me more about it… not read me sign as if I was unable to and then roll your eyes and stomp off.
I am not sure if she was making assumptions about my beliefs based on my appearance or people she saw earlier in the store, but either is unfair and honestly bad for business. I think it would behoove you dear saleswoman to assume less and perhaps even adopt the same open and curious attitude that I entered your lovely shop with.
I ended up buying two gorgeous dolls. It was honestly a personal dilemma because I really wanted them but despised the way I was treated here and therefore the experience that would be attached forever to the purchase of them. But I believe that it would be a disservice to myself to allow someone else’s negativity to rob me of what I truly wanted and perhaps this review will prevent the saleswomen from approaching other patron’s with the same ugliness. If you are running a voodoo shop in a tourist town, I imagine you are tired of people’s incorrect pre-conceived notions of voodoo. However don’t become that which you obviously hate, and harbor pre-conceived notions...
Read moreI’ve never left a google review and will likely never leave another, but felt tremendously compelled to share my experience at Voodoo Authentica. I don’t quite know what led me to walk into that shop on my first day in New Orleans other than sheer curiosity, but I could feel the immense spiritual power of the space from the moment I stepped through the door. This place is more than a cultural museum with a storefront, it is a sanctuary graced by truly extraordinary people that use their gifts to heal, guide, and illuminate its patrons. My reading with Zaar—who is one of the greatest people you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting btw—left me near speechless due to its accuracy and depth (it was as if he looked directly into my soul to help guide me). His divination not only allowed me to understand the root of so many of my ongoing issues, but it also gave me a way forward that left me more optimistic about my future than I’ve felt in years. Moreover, I felt an instant connection to the style and purpose of voodoo (particularly as it’s practiced in NOLA), which has awakened a spirituality within me that‘s otherwise been dormant since I can remember. It is as if a whole new world has opened up and I seem more enlightened than ever before. From what other place can you walk away with those kinds of feelings? It was and likely always will be one of the most significant experiences of my life. So, to any skeptic (trust me, I know the feeling well!) or for anyone looking for genuine spiritual guidance in their life, a visit to Voodoo Authentica is a must! You need only open your mind and soul a little, and I promise you‘ll walk away with something...
Read moreBefore I discuss my reading experience, I'd like to make a comment on the customer service over the phone. I don't live in Louisiana, so I've made quite a few calls with questions, and while I do not remember the names of the 2 employees I spoke with, I recognized their voices to be the same (I called that much), and they were very patient, kind, informative, and welcoming. That's a really great first impression, and along with the reviews on here about reading experiences, their customer service was a boost in me calling to schedule the readings. Thank you for your kindness in such a time where it's hugely needed.
Now, for the readings. I had two readings because I ran out of time with the first one, which was with Camille or Kamille (I'm not sure of her spelling). She was super awesome to talk to, and she spoke in a way to ensure you got the message. Direct and to the point, and gave great analogies to drive the message home. Enjoyed it very much.
My second reading was with Zaar (spelling again). He was also super awesome. He made his reading entertaining which was fun! He was also direct and to the point, which left no room for confusion or questions. He's funny as well.
Both of them were just real human beings, which I appreciate. They both spoke with confidence, there was no question mark in their messages. They were sure of what they were saying, and I felt it all because some of it I knew for myself already and I also learned a lot. Great location. I'm glad I don't live nearby because I'd probably be in that store more often than I should haha
Thank you all for...
