Stopped here on the late night for a burger since they are one of few spots either food 24/7. I read through plenty of the reviews so I had mixed expectations.
First, the breakfast burger was spot on. Delicious. It’s a thick patty, grilled fresh. They come one temperature. I’m a medium gal and this was well done, but it wasn’t lacking. Burger was tender, not tough or dry. The toppings were perfectly balanced. I added cheese, which I’m kinda shocked it didn’t come with. Cost me $1.49 which is ridiculous, but I didn’t ask ahead of time so it is what it is.
The grill is right behind the bar top, so you can see the cook as he prepares the food. He is good at his job. The neatness and attention to detail as he single handily made every order was all skill. My burger was excellent and worth the wait. Cause you will wait.
There was only one person taking orders and running the food. He was very observant, though he seemed to avoid eye contact so you wouldn’t question how long it’s going to take to be acknowledged. But, soon as he took care of one table, he went to the next table in “queue” — and was overall pleasant enough. It’s Christmas and you are a one man team, I’d extend some grace.
I did see two tables get up and leave because of the slow service and that’s unfortunate all around cause the food is fresh (as in made to order) and good. Calling it a “greasy spoon” is not how I’d describe it cause it’s not greasy in my opinion.
Prices were mostly fair though after tip I spent $21…and some change…on one burger. It is what it is.
Three stars because it’s 24/7, made to order, and the overall best option if you want diner food. But the service can use improvement. You have a reputation that’s promoted enough to where you should want to have someone else on staff that can help when business is busy. Every negative review on service I can see having took place. So for there to be no improvement...
Read moreI, personally, LOVE the Clover Grill!! ❤️❤️ ... It's always been a Welcoming & Enjoyable experience for me 😍 ... My personal FAVORITE dish - Build Your Own Burger. 🤩 In my humble opinion, these guys make The BEST Burger in New Orleans!! .... I also enjoy their Chicken Fried Steak, and on occasion, their Breakfasts! ... But for myself, hands down, the showstopper will always be their Burger!! ❤️😍❤️ .... I order mine with grilled onion & mushrooms, dressed with Mayo, Pickles, fresh Onion, & Lettuce! (Ketchup applied by self @ table) & I often order bacon on burger as well... However!! Cautionary Note on ordering Bacon with your burgers! Bacon at my lovely grill tends to be a hit-n-miss item. It's often been cooked (& overcooked at that) in advance :/ You DON'T always receive "fresh, HOT" bacon when ordering it as toping on burger (or in general :/ ) ... Just be aware before selecting Bacon as the desired item at the establishment. 😂 ..... One other "cautionary" note - I personally am HORRIFICALLY susceptible & OVERLY Sensitive to - 🥶 COLD 🥶 - & I unfortunately find my wonderful dinner ABSOLUTELY FRIGID!!! Year Round!! .... So, IF like myself you happen to be particularly COLD Sensitive! #1- BRING Your BIG Coat!! #2- I'd even recommend GLOVES! #3 - sit @ the Bar, Directly Across from the Grill!! While still NOT warm! Being closer to the heat source DOES (marginally) Help. #4- Unfortunately, don't expect to stay longer than necessary... this ice-box isn't a place one will want to linger! (I usually end up taking half my food to go! ... Hard to enjoy the ABSOLUTE DELICIOUSNESS!! when your teeth are chattering! .....) .... * Seriously Tells Ya JUST How Much! I Really, REALLY Do 😍 LOVE! 😍 this place!! 🤣🤣 * .... ..... Conversely, if you're one of those people that always thinks it's Too Hot, everywhere you go... 😂 CLOVER GRILL is Definitely! the Diner...

First, it deserves its ratings. Second, it is an end-of-the-road oasis from the rest of what is Bourbon St. Go for breakfast . . . whenever you want it. Go for dinner . . . whenever you want it. I mean, it is a classic 24-hour diner that does what a 24-hour diner should do.
The staff have always been great. They range from sassy to attentive to hilarious to any and all of the above. The customers (I tend to come here towards the start or the end of the evening) are a gloriously mixed bunch. Last time? A guy who passed out on top of his plate of eggs tried to do a dine-and-dash that looked more like a wobble-and-swerve. The waiter gave us a shrug, slowly walked outside, tapped him on the back, talked with him, and brought him back inside to pay. This time? An inebriated local/regular decided to unzip his pants to tuck in his pants, started mimicking Mick Jagger, and then engaged me in a discussion of Irish musicians who committed suicide. Really? Yeah, really. On another visit, I was outside having a smoke, and the waiter came to the door, leaned out, and shouted: "HEY BOYFRIEND, YOUR FOOD'S READY. DON'T BE A *, COME IN AND EAT!!!"
Oh, the ambience and food? As regards the former, this is a small diner with limited table seating and counter seating as well. Think the 50s in the Twilight Zone. As regards the latter, think stick to your colon, bad for you, diner food. The omelettes are great. The onion rings are on point. The tater tots are crispy. Again, this is NOT a kale and super juice kinda’ place.
NOLA remains a great place to visit. This place is one of the reasons. Thank you for yet another great experience. Looking forward...
