Been here a few times, the first time being over a year ago. Arguably, my first time here was excellent: food was tasty, service was good and they took care of my small group at the time. Over the next few visits, however, the meats didn't taste as good (later learned they changed the sauce) and service wasn't that great either. I heard the management changed a few months back and came here with my family again (for mother's Day). The food was good, though how the meat gets cooked totally depends on the staff. Side dishes are on the traditional side but I found them to be tasty. The service can be a bit slow, especially when they're busy and you do need to ask for things here and there instead of the staff being super proactive about taking care of you (like asking for water). Personally, as long as the food is tasty, lower levels of service don't bother me that much. My mom enjoys eating here so I'll come back for sure, probably on a less busy day too. I could see this place being a bit difficult for non-korean parties eating here though but the staff does speak some English so it's not like you...
Read moreAre you kidding me? Initially the 11 dishes of Bonchon were impressive. However, after tasting the eggplant bonchon it was spoiled and had a bad aroma. I had to spit it out. Then came my husband’s Galbi which was boneless cuts of mystery meat. What kind of restaurant that SPECIALIZES in Galbi gives out so called Galbi without the bone??? Then my bulgogi beef came and looked like frozen slices of tasteless beef. The white rice was slightly off color too meaning it was from the day before. With the sourness from the spoiled eggplant still on my tongue, I lost my appetite. When I complained to the owner she asked us to pay for this meal and she’d give a discount for next time. Well we didn’t each much and there is no next time. We didn’t want to make a scene as it was Lunar New Year and full of customers so we just got up and left without paying. Owner didn’t follow but I would have made a big scene for all to hear if she did. Her worst comment was that she just took over as the new owner. If so, why run it further...
Read moreFood: The quality of the food was mediocre. The marinated pork had an off-putting taste, suggesting that the sauce may have been nearing its expiration. Additionally, the cold noodles lacked flavor and were quite bland.
Service: Initially, the service was satisfactory. However, upon settling the bill, I encountered an issue. I left a 20% tip, amounting to $17.00, which I considered appropriate given the lunch setting and the quality of service provided. Despite this, the waitress remarked that "$12.00 is not enough," to which I clarified that the tip was indeed $17.00. She acknowledged this, but as I departed, both the waitress and her colleague seemed to convey, through their demeanor, that the tip was still insufficient. It is important to remember that tips are intended to reflect the quality of service and are optional, not mandatory.
Summary: There are several other Korean marinated pork restaurants nearby, such as Galbi Maeul and Mapo BBQ, which offer better alternative...
