My wife and I decided to purchase our wedding cake through Angela's Bakery based on the "good" reviews we have seen on Google.
The wedding cake pricing process went pretty smoothly. We had around 80 guests and they priced our cake at $800 based on our design and size, plus an additional ~$100 for delivery. Ordering process went smoothly and the design came out exactly how we wanted it.
Everything looked good until we actually tried it. Our cake was 3 tiers, with the base being a shiny goldish color. During my wife's and I wedding reception, when we did the cake cutting and shared a piece of the cake, we noticed a wierd taste to it. We didn't put much thought into it, until other guests started to notice.
When we were on our honeymoon, we recieved a lot of calls and texts from our guests stating that the cake had this weird spray paint odor to it and had this really weird chemical taste. We were shocked!
When we got back from the honeymoon, we took a piece of the gold tier out of the fridge and immediately noticed this weird paint smell from the gold outer layer. It smelled like spray paint and many of the guests who took a piece of the gold tier noticed that smell as well.
We got back from our honeymoon two weeks after our wedding. That same weekend we got back, we went to Angela's bakery to return the cake stand we rented and inform the manager about the smell of the cake.
We didn't want our money back, we just wanted to let the manager know about the weird smell so that no other customers throw away $800 down the drain.
We brought a piece of the cake to the store and informed one of the employees. We noticed the manager was just standing back, listening, while the employee explained to us that they do not use any spray paint for the gold coloring. We told her to find out if the person who did the fondit used some type of unusal gold coloring chemical.
The employee smelled the cake and said the cake smells like paint because the cake is "2 weeks old." But the paint smell was noticed on the day of the wedding and multiple guests noticed it too. We told her we couldn't just cancel our honeymoon and bring a sample of the cake to Angela the day after the wedding. We had to wait after the honeymoon.
The employee continued to explain they do not use spray paint and we continued to say that "we do not want our money back", we just wanted to inform the manager about the smell and maybe investigate the type of coloring they used for the gold base so that other customers do not experience the same issue.
Then the manager jumped in and became argumentative with a really bad attitude. She said "first, you are 2 weeks late on the rental, so no excuses..." We apologized in the rental of the stand but we informed her our honeymoon trip was the day after the wedding so we didn't have the time to drop by the bakery. Then she continued to say "it doesn't matter, you ARE 2 WEEKS LATE ON THE STAND!" And continued to ignore the paint issue.
The manager had the nastiest attitude. She kept mentioning the stand and ignoring our complaint about the paint smell. She didn't even want to smell the sample we brought.
My wife and I left the bakery after realizing that the manager doesn't care about customer service.
LONG STORY SHORT: We wasted $800 on an inedible wedding cake that smelled and tasted like spray paint. The manager (Angela??) had a really bad attitude and kept ignoring the fact that the sample cake we brought her smelled like paint.
We didn't want our money back. We just wanted to let customers know about our experience, especially if you are planning to purchase a wedding cake through Angela's Bakery. We do know Angela's Bakery lost a lot of potential future customers from our wedding after we told our guests about the manager's attitude and lack of concern for customer service and potentially using a bad gold coloring material.
To future customers, please be aware of this bakery and the materials they use. Do your research. Maybe have them make you a sample of the wedding cake for you to try the...

Read moreI gave this establishment two stars, let me explain why. I placed a in person order for that cake with the filling of tres leche and strawberries. Total cost for this cake was $250.00. Once we cut into the cake I realized that it did not have strawberry filling but dulce de leche or what they like to call it cream de leche. I did NOT order that i ordered strawberry. After i have a piece we realize not only is it the wrong flavor but it is also not tres leche. OK! I was upset how WRONG my order was. Naturally i call the next day and i let the women on the phone know my order was incorrect do i get a partial refund or something. I sent pictures of the cake as well as the receipt. At first the bakery was not taking Responsibility, I was being blamed for the mix up because they do not offer tres leche that people get cream de leche confused with tres leche and that they also don’t mix flavors. OK but when i went in person and placed the order of tres leche with strawberry i was told they can do it. I should have been told tres leche is not a flavor you offer. And either way my order did not contain any strawberries either. I ordered what I ordered and instead i got what they wanted to do. I ask for two filling I got zero out of two. After about 20 minutes on the phone trying to get a partical refund which they made VERY CLEAR they do not do thats in the receipt ( it’s not btw it just says they do not give refunds on cancelled orders). I was offered a discount on my next cake. I did not accept those terms because i would not be placing another order from that bakery. So that would be pointless. While all this is going on I’ve spoke to two women first tried her best second one as well but the second one did eventually get rude and hung up on me and when i called back she refused to speak to me when i also just wanted to confirm she would give the owners my number and to relay my message which was that i did not want to discount on my next cake and that i want 50% refund. To at least negotiate a solution. Super rude, work on your costumer service ladies seriously. I wouldnt have kept insisting unless i felt like i was being respected and heard when all you kept doing was disregarding me and saying oh well we dont give refunds just a discount on your next order. Not to mention the people in the background that can be heard laughing and one even said claro que no about giving refunds. Super professional 👏🏻. I also kept being told the owners are in and out they are barely there that they will call me back. It was so obvious no one was calling me back. I was told to keep calling the bakery like who has time for that. I shouldnt have to chase my money like that. They are responsible do the right thing! Especially as a small buisness! I actually went to the bakery right after i was hung up on When i get to the bakery, the Remainder of the cake was placed on the counter do what you want with that. I did speak to Manuel i think he said he’s the manager. First and foremost thank you manuel for working with me thats all i asked for. He did refuse to call the owner so that i can talk to him but what he did was give me $60.00 cash as a refund. Even though that is not what i wanted like i said i was willing to negotiate. Honestly you guys need a better policy in place and be clear about rules in WRITING. However my cake flavors with an “s” was wrong that on you guys not me. Two stars because the cake was beautiful and becuase manuel worked with me and was respectful. Please dont ever state you dont give refunds. When you mess up an order take responsibility instead of blaming the costumer. That’s just...
