We (a group of 4) came here for a Saturday late-afternoon lunch and were very satisfied.
They have specific vegetarian options that I was happy with, there was not much variety in them, but it was sufficient. Even non-meat based main-course is usually non-vegetarian, with fish-sauce being very common in Thai cuisine.
Starters: Summer roll = fresh, uncooked, perhaps a little too raw for my liking. The accompanying brown sauce was pungent and nice. Taro spring roll = Deep fried spring rolls, not so great. But, the accompanying orange coloured thick sauce was lip-smacking! Vegetable dumplings = Simple, well steamed, well-stuffed. This was the only starter that was very satisfying. Served with soy-sauce.
Main Course: The Red curry (with rice) = Yummy! My most-favourite item among all -- rich in coconut milk, mild in chilli-spice, flavourful with herbs. Pineapple fried rice = Very soft and delicious. Can be easily passed off as a Kashmiri pulao in an Indian restaurant. Rich with cashews, broccoli, dry grapes, and juicy pineapples. I loved it! Drunken noodle = Flat-square pieces of noodles(??). My friend ordered it 'extra-spicy' and it was unbearable for me. Too many chilli-flakes.
Drinks and Desserts: Thai tea lychee = A great thirst-quencher, made me want to drink more and more! The flavour was subtle and sweet. Thai Ice coffee = It was neither thick nor watery, it was in a good consistency. There was a mild sourness (citrus or alcohol?) and somehow feels like Irish coffee. I took a sip, but the whole cup would've been an overdose! Mango sticky rice = A wonderful dessert with cut mango slices on one side, and rice + thick sweet coconut milk on the other. The fruit was fresh and good. The rice part gave an Indian 'paal saatham' (milk rice) feeling. A good, filling, and healthy dessert.
While some dishes were not-so-great, items 4, 5, and 9, were so good that I can't give anything lesser than an...
Read moreNice little spot in FiDi to satisfy your Thai food cravings. The space has limited seating and is always busy during peak lunch hours. I recommend ordering ahead of time to beat the lunch rush.
I placed my order for takeout via GrubHub around 4pm and by the time I got there my food was ready which was roughly 10 minutes. The staff member was friendly and handed my food with a big smile.
I ordered the Crispy Pork Pad See Ew along with the Curry Puffs. The vegetables in the Pad See Ew had more crunch than the pork - in fact it had so much crunch I thought it was a bit undercooked because you can taste some of the bitterness. The noodles were a bit overcooked and a bit on the mushy side. Pork flavor was pleasant but a tad dry - luckily it did have some fat to help it along. The sweet savory sauce really did try it's best to keep the dish together but in the end the overall dish fell short of my expectations. 3/5
The Curry Puff - light airy pastry puff filled with curry chicken and potato served with cucumber vinegar sauce. From the very first bite, you know you're in for a treat. The fillings were seasoned nicely and the pastry dough was soft and flaky.
I gave it 4 stars because I paid nearly $18 for the Crispy Pork Pad See Ew and it was such a let down but the service was quick, friendly and efficient. If you are near FiDi and don't mind the price then I do recommend it because they have some decent items...
