One Dutch Hotel is very conveniently located, and offers spacious suites. However, this new hotel is housed in a one-hundred-year-old building that was not adequately renovated or upgraded before being opened to the public. The radiator in the second bedroom still had its original, one-hundred-year-old valve, which caused the radiator to bang so extremely loudly and incessantly that my adult daughter was unable to sleep in that room. (She first resorted to the living room sofa and then, because the living room was much too cold, she crawled into my bed.) The radiator's clamor also woke me up repeatedly in the early morning hours, despite the fact that I was sleeping in the adjoining bedroom! My bedroom was cold, as were its two radiator valves (also original with the building), compelling me to sleep in my winter coat under the down-filled duvet. After two nights of enduring these conditions, I complained to the Manager, Juan Heredia. He immediately arranged the replacement of the faulty radiator valves in both rooms. He apologized for causing us such discomfort, admitting that the management "did not have time to check all of the suites and [to] deal with all of the necessary repairs before opening the hotel." I requested reimbursement for the first two nights of my planned eight-night stay, since the rooms' conditions had resulted in very broken sleep for both of us. He agreed to adjust my bill, to compensate us for the considerable inconvenience. I then discovered that the reason that the suite's living room was so frigid was that there was a gap between its massive window and the wall. Cold air was pouring in through the entire length of this loosely duct-taped gap; this had been concealed by shades that had been drawn down all the way. When I informed the front desk of this additional, significant oversight, I was given three small space heaters "to take the chill out of the room." Later, the window was repaired. Manager Juan Heredia's gracious manner and the promptness with which he sent repairmen led me to believe that he would keep his promise to reimburse me for the uncomfortable first two nights' stay. He has reneged on his promise. Instead of the $520 USD refund discussed (the total for two nights), he has refunded me only $100. This amount appears to be a token acknowledgement of the management's irresponsibility in opening prematurely. Mr. Heredia maintains that I should seek further reimbursement from Vrbo, but Vrbo's management states that the funds are at One Dutch and that it is One Dutch that should pay me the amount they had promised. I am still awaiting a satisfactory resolution...
Read moreFamily of four (2 girls under 10) just came back from two weeks at One Dutch hotel. We chose it because we wanted two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a washer/dryer. Very difficult to find that setup in NYC which makes One Dutch a unique offering.
Location: Downtown in the financial district and a few blocks from World Trade Center. Numerous food options all over the place. Great coffee shop (Suited) around the corner and a Joe’s Pizza. There is a market not far (Jubilee) where you can get just about everything you’d need from a typical supermarket. We ordered Whole Foods and had it delivered same day right to our apartment. Super convenient to stock the full kitchen so we didn’t have to eat out for every meal. Fulton Street subway station is 3 minutes away and can connect you to anywhere you’d want to go. We explored all of Manhattan via this station.
Apartment: 2 bedroom, 1 and 1/2 bath, and a pullout couch. The kitchen was well equipped with a full refrigerator, oven, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, coffee maker, and kettle. The only complaint I have on the apartment is the second bedroom A/C didn’t work well. I ended up buying a fan on Amazon and that pulled the cool air into the room to provide a better experience. The rooftop was wonderful and they set it up nice with tables, couches, and lounge chairs. The gym had the basics but we were so tired from walking around everyday that we didn’t even use the gym.
Staff: This is the secret sauce at the hotel. Every staff member, from front desk to reservations and the maintenance team, was fantastic. Our dishwasher wasn’t working and they had a brand new one installed the very next day. I enjoyed chatting with numerous members of the team (Mentor, Hesh, Eddy, Ghia, etc.) and truly miss seeing them now that we’ve gone home.
We plan on heading back to NYC next summer and One Dutch is where...
Read moreI want to share high praise for One Dutch Hotel. My friends and I wrapped up our stay over the weekend, and I literally cannot say enough about how wonderful our time was there. First of all, the room we reserved was perfect for our needs. It was large, very clean, and had enough space for us to sleep (two rooms and a sleeper sofa). The kitchen area was large and allowed us to sit and chat and not feel cramped, plus the kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, utensils, and cleaning supplies. Making us even more happy was the 1 1/2 bathrooms. No one had to wait to get ready, no stress, no worries! Also, if you like to work out, like my friends and I do, the gym in the basement is amazing with plenty of equipment for all of your interests. Want a relaxing space to enjoy the NY skyline? We loved the rooftop space at the hotel. It is worth the trip upstairs! Finally, and most important, I want to commend the One Dutch Hotel staff. Everyone there was very gracious and incredibly helpful. My friends and I felt so welcome. Every time we spoke to someone on the staff, we walked away with a smile. I have had a lot of different travel experiences and have stayed in many different hotels and short-term rentals. One Dutch Hotel is in my top five of places to stay because of the kindness of the staff and the quality of the space. You will not be disappointed if you make a...
