A Truly Unforgettable Evening at Bamboo Walk ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you're searching for an authentic Jamaican dining experience that truly captures the heart and soul of the Caribbean right here in Brooklyn, look no further than Bamboo Walk on Utica Avenue. This place doesn’t just serve food — it serves an experience. I recently brought my two favorite cousins here during their visit from out of town, and what started as a casual dinner turned into one of those unforgettable evenings we’ll be reminiscing about for years to come.
From the very first moment we stepped through the doors, we could feel the warmth and vibrancy of the place. The ambiance immediately set the tone for what was to come — lively, welcoming, and full of character. Soft reggae music filled the air, the décor blended modern comfort with island charm, and the gentle hum of conversation created a perfect backdrop for reconnecting with loved ones. It’s that kind of space where you can relax, laugh freely, and feel right at home while still enjoying an experience that feels a little bit special.
The service was absolutely top-notch from start to finish. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, genuine, and clearly proud of what they do. They struck the perfect balance — always nearby and ready to help, but never hovering. They took time to explain menu options, share their personal favorites, and ensure our drinks and plates were always full. Their professionalism, warmth, and easy smiles made us feel more like family than customers.
Now, the food — where do I even begin? Every single dish that came to our table was bursting with bold, authentic Jamaican flavors that transported us straight to the islands. From the tender jerk chicken to the perfectly seasoned oxtail and the fluffy rice and peas, everything was cooked to perfection. You could tell each meal was made with love, using fresh ingredients and traditional techniques. The portions were more than generous, and every bite was pure comfort. Even my cousins, who are serious food lovers, were completely blown away by the quality and depth of flavor.
The evening flowed beautifully as we ate, talked, and laughed. The restaurant’s energy made it easy to unwind and enjoy the moment. We found ourselves taking photos, sharing stories, and even chatting with other diners who were just as delighted by their meals. It felt like a true community space — one that brings people together through great food, great music, and a shared appreciation for Jamaican culture.
What made this visit truly special was how everything — the atmosphere, the food, the service, and the company — blended perfectly to create a memorable experience. Bamboo Walk didn’t just give us a wonderful dinner; it gave us a night that reminded us why we love Brooklyn and all its hidden gems. It’s the kind of place that makes you proud to show your guests the best the city has to offer.
Whether you’re planning a family gathering, a night out with friends, or just craving some incredible Caribbean food, Bamboo Walk should be at the very top of your list. Every detail — from the warm welcome to the last delicious bite — reflects genuine care and passion. I can’t recommend it enough.
If you want great food, a great atmosphere, and a genuine taste of Jamaica right in the heart of Brooklyn, Bamboo Walk is the place to go. You won’t just enjoy a meal here — you’ll...
Read moreWe arrived for Saturday Brunch at noon. The greeter and wait staff were amazing, as well as the decor of the restaurant. We started with some sparkling water and Mimosas. The first round of mimosas weren't cold, we were seated next to the bar and they were still getting setup with all of their juices on the bar top so I wasn't surprised the drinks weren't cold, it was as if the orange juice was left out and only the champagne was chilled. The second round of mimosas were cold.
We ordered the Crab Cakes to start, you can't claim "Jumbo Lump Crab" and plate these unseasoned mini Shredded Crab Cakes, not 1 cluster of lump crab to be seen in the cake. The Remoulade sauce was the only flavorful part of the dish. I wouldn't recommend the crab cakes.
My wife ordered the Sausage and Eggs from the brunch menu, she loved the eggs potatoes and onions and peppers, the chorizo sausage was crisp but extremely spicy, like make you sweat spicy, I tried a piece of the sausage and my mouth was burning up, it had great flavor but spice level of that extreme should be noted on the menu.
The shrimp and grits were amazing, whoever makes that dish in the kitchen needs to be made head chef because it was like a tale of 2 restaurants, you can definitely taste the love in that dish. It could be that more care was put into this dish because it was the replacement for the fail that was their Steak and Eggs but I would definitely return for the shrimp and grits.
Now back to the Steak and Eggs (Brunch Menu), sadly the chef doesn't think much of their customer, this was NOT Skirt Steak, and I asked for Medium Rare. The steak was well done. When I send it back the waitress says she'll get the chef for me, she returns, not the chef, saying they're out of the skirt steak. I ask her why I wasn't advised that they were out of skirt steak, she apologizes. So the chef thinks so little of your customers that they will serve them whatever meat is available? Then they botched that by overcooking it.
No one from management came by to apologize, the chef definitely didn't want to show face.
I wanted to love this place but what a slap in the face to assume the people of this community wouldn't be able to differentiate between a good cut of meat and some overcooked slab of meat they decided to throw on the plate.
After all of this to be hit with a AUTOMATIC 20% Gratuity for all of this 'great' service.
The decor and ambiance overshadowed the food. Management needs to...
Read moreI want to start by saying that this establishment should be visited. I didn’t have a reservation, and it was my mom’s birthday. She chose to be cute and wear heels, and her feet were hurting. We opted to sit outside as opposed to waiting for a table. When our hostess realized it was her birthday, she spoke to her manager without us knowing and moved us inside. You have to respect an establishment that doesn’t just do great customer service but believes in hospitality. So they get a 5/5 for service.
I am unsure if it was a hectic night and they were understaffed but the start of the night was a bit rocky. The manager and the hostess both took turn taking our order until our waitress finally arrived. I didn’t see her again until she came by once to remove some plates. A bit heartening when you take into consideration that 20% gratuity is already included in your bill. For that I’ll give 4/5, but kuddos to the house manager for realizing and being courteous and attentive as much as he could throughout the night.
The food was delicious. But what I appreciated the most was them being true to their name “Caribbean cuisine”. Typically when you go to a Caribbean restaurant they tend to have Jamaican or Trinidadian food, unless you go to a specific Caribbean cuisine place. But Bamboo, and it’s my first time seeing this, actually has a multitude of Caribbean cuisine. The menu has everything from Jamaica to Haiti. I’ve never gotten Haitian food at a none Haitian restaurant. It made my heart smile. I didn't have any but I saw the plates pass by and they smelled delicious. For that they get a 5/5 although my steak was slightly salty.
I would recommend that they work a bit on the time it takes for the food to come out. While they do not rush you, and the food is made to order, it’s a bit lackluster when one entree comes out and the other party’s entree arrives close to 15 minutes later.
The price is a bit up there so don’t go if on a tight budget, save and then go. I hope to go again soon. Hopefully I can change my 4 to a 5 after the next visit. I want to try the fried escovich fish next time. I saw two come out and they were nearly the size...
