I'll start with the important part, they make excellent pizza! I use the single regular slice test at any place I walk into. I order a single slice and eat it. If possible several times over a few days, and I rate the slice. On my scale this one is a 10. The best I ever tasted, although my experience is limited to kosher establishments, I do think I tasted most of those in NYC.
Other types of slices are also excellent, vodka sauce, zette, white, original, deep dish. They also serve excellent battered french fries, onion rings, soups, their Mac & Cheese is also excellent and also more pasta which is prepared on the spot, everything is made fresh. Salad bar is much in demand from what I can see,
However, not everything is awesome, it's not a large place and it is busy, you might need to wait some time for service, it isn't very clean, and ordering is a bit slow - you need to know what you want, you usually won't get much help from the person at the register. But... The food operation itself does look clean, and once ordered the pizza doesn't take long to get to your mouth (beware,...
Read moreThe pizza was crisp and fresh, but the cashier completely price gouged me. I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 2 years and have been dying to try Benny’s. The brick oven really sets them apart from the other pizza joints in the neighborhood, and it always smells so deliciously intoxicating whenever I’ve walked by. Finally today, I stopped in to try a slice for lunch. One slice, and a small bottle of water - $7.75!! So I checked on their website: a slice is $3.50, a bottled water is $1.75. That’s $5.25. When the cashier told me the total I said “$7.75?? For one slice??” He said, “… and a bottle of water…?” Like this was normal. I told him that’s crazy, and his response was “I just work here. Give me $7 and we’ll call it even”. ?? Delicious pizza, questionable customer service… as a professional chef myself, I really like supporting local mom and pop’s, but gouging customers, with no visible price tags posted anywhere in the shop, seems like an odd...
Read moreAs I kid, I went to this pizza place every Sunday with my father it was one of my favorite pizza restaurants, always sitting by the window and have a few slices of different kinds of pizza. My favourite is the pasta style, that is one my most nostalgic pizza's i've every had, always enjoyed it too. I stopped coming since I moved abroad, ten years ago to Israel, and I've been missing this place since. The pizza here isn't the best, though i wish Benny's opened a franchise here, it would be a hit, and It's something I'd love to see in the future. I'd love to visit Benny's again, it would be a dream to have the slice I've always wanted to try again. The crispiness to the pasta and crust, the cheese slipping slightly from the slice as you either have to use a fork and knife, or fold it and take a bite. I love Benny's and thank you for giving me some nostalgia, if i ever come back to NYC, this is the first place...
