Blue Sky Deli will always be "Hajji's" to me and it's also the birthplace of the "chopped cheese" sandwich. the convenience store has your typical elements: a deli / grill, candy and snack foods, refrigerated drinks, some household items and more. the interior is clean and fairly organized. order your sando at the cashier, pay, and wait for some deliciousness. an endless variety of hot or cold sandwiches are served here, here. however enjoying a chopped cheese is a must. for those who don’t know, a “chopped cheese” is basically New York City’s version of the Philly Cheese Steak except the meat is season hamburger patties. order it with “everything” on a hero roll as all chopped cheeses should be enjoyed (“everything is grilled onions, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, and mayo). the quality of the bread is the difference maker as it tastes nice and fresh on the inside and toasted on the outside. the sandwich really is like no other as all those flavors combine into a savory mess of delicious calories. the sandwich is hefty and is easily shareable between two or feeds one hungry person. $7 + tip for the chopped cheese on a hero. depending on how many grill sandwiches are ahead of you order, a chopped cheese take a little bit of time like 10 minutes.

There's nothing like the original. This is the birth place of the NY chopped cheese. I have had other chopped cheeses, but this is definitely the best. I dont understand how the pack so much flavor into such a simple sandwich, but they do. Any time I get a chance to stop here for a quick sandwich, I do. Parking is tough, but I think a few times around the block and you could get lucky with a parking spot. There are no tables in this place. This is strictly a buy and go Bodega so you will have to eat in the car but you definitely need to go and bite into a piece of NYC history!
