A small bakery that produces consistently good results.
I love the mom and pop atmosphere, though I understand that younger people and hipsters might prefer the flashier decor and sanitized interactions of other local bakeries.
This is a cash only business. So, you'll give up a small amount of convenience in exchange for a more personal experience.
Some of my personal favorites here are the raspberry walnut bars (while my girlfriend prefers the lemon bars), the chocolate pecan triangles(made with almond flour, so probably a good gluten free choice), and of course, the scones! If you are there during the weekend, be sure to try a piece of the cranberry nut bread (sold in small squares). It's dense, moist, nutty, and has a hint of sweetness from the cranberries. Oh yeah, the prune Hamantash are fantastic! Again, I know that the younger crowd might avoid a prune pastry, but being in my 50's makes me appreciate a place that still makes the classics. Yes, they have other varieties of Hamantash as well, and they probably sell more of the others. But, they continue to make the prune variety, and I really appreciate that!
Always a wonderful personal experience and worth going out of my way to visit. Upon leaving, I often feel bad for the people eating the garbage they sell at the Dunkin...
Read moreOkay, so I had a terrible experience here when my daughters were little. I have twin daughters, and I wanted to order each girl a small, pretty cookie. The owner of the pastry shop gave me one cookie that was whole and one that was broken into several pieces. I asked him politely if I could have a whole cookie for my other daughter because I couldn't give one daughter a nice cookie and the other a broken one. Despite having paid for both cookies, the owner got angry and threw a fit. He grabbed the broken cookie and hurled it across the bakery, smashing it against the wall. I was shocked and didn't ask for my money back. I just rushed out with my daughters.
Well, it's been several years, and I decided to give the place another shot. Same kind of terrible, tension-filled experienceâthis time with a rude lady. I ordered some bread, and she was stone-faced and abrupt. When I asked for some water because I felt a little light-headed, she snapped at me and refused to give it to me. When I got home, I noticed the bread was not what I ordered. It was a different type of bread and had mold on the bottom. I'm not going to return itâtoo much tension. This woman is not human. I can't deal with her. How can people treat their customers that way and stay in business?...
Read moreOrdered a cake for my sons baptism. When I ordered the woman was very pleasant. Price was good. I was happy. The day I picked it up, the writing and decor on the cake was horrible. I asked for the lettering to be corrected and evened out (because it was lopsided) and proceeded to get scoffed at and ridiculed for daring to ask that the cake look pretty, that they are the best pastry shop around and itâs about the flavor not the look. And then one of the ladies said, â you know he could drop the cake going back down the stairs and then youâll have no cake.â I hadnât paid yet and I reminded her that I could also walk out without the cake and spend my money somewhere else. The man who made the cake fixed the lettering with a tiny bit more care, but it was still a lack luster for a cake that just said God Bless and my sons name. The crossâŠliterally just two lines. My family did enjoy the flavor, but I would never return to to experience such rude customer service. Never had a worse experience ordering a...
