Discovered this area a couple years ago while trying to find a place to walk around Forest Hills. A lot of migratory birds come here in the spring. I've heard/seen different warblers, vireos, yellowthroats; a more experienced birdwatcher probably might find even more variety. There are water birds as well year round. It's a shame they built highways (there are two of them!) so close to this natural area, and don't come here thinking you can get away from traffic noise or pollution. Recently I have seen a fair number of people seeming to enjoy fishing in the lake, I really wouldn't trust anything caught here for human consumption... Unfortunately also some of the people that come here leave trash around (from small litter to beer cans all the way up to bike tires and an office chair). Parks doesn't seem to have much interest in keeping this area up at the moment it seems. I think this rare natural area in Queens might be a rather important wildlife habitat, we ought to be taking better care of it.

This is a trail in the back of flushing meadows park, it's separated form the front part as there is swamp land that is not stable to be waked on around here. And eventually to get back to the front of the park you have to take and over pass over the highway and walk through a neighborhood hood for a while till you can get back north to where the center of the park is by busy intersection

Even though it was winter it was a great train to explore. Saw a lot of ducks and geese in the lake and also other birds on the trail. It can be a little muddy but it’s not too bad. Most of the wet/muddy parts of the trail had wooden board wall style areas to walk on. Highly recommend it. You will still hear the Highway even though you are surrounded by tall weed plants.
