Lower your expectations if if you plan to go. What I encountered upon arrival was far from the quality standards he preaches (or acts out) on his shows. The food was good, no doubt about that. Everything else was questionable. Portions: Overflowing with French fries and only three shrimp. That’s something he would criticize on a plate. Utensil Station: Quite sparse and neglected. Service: Nonexistent. The cashier greeted me with a look of displeasure and didn’t offer me the menu, even though it was obvious I was a tourist. She could have guided me and made upselling suggestions. She handed me the receipt but didn’t indicate where to find the number they’d call for my order. Customers who arrived after me received their food before I did. My order took a long time – come on! It’s fried food; it should have been ready in a few minutes. I had to stand in front of the counter to make it clear that my order was taking too long. Additionally, when I asked the cashier for the restroom, she gave me a code for the door. My English is good, and I understood the code, but she wasn’t clear or helpful in assisting me to use it. She saw me at the door struggling to enter the code but didn’t come over to help. I couldn’t use the restroom. Dining Room: Minimalistic, which I understand if that’s the concept, but the tables weren’t clean, the chairs were disorganized, and the overall feeling was sad. By the way, it would have been better if the staff had fixed whatever was above the door before the restaurant opened. We had to navigate around a ladder placed right in the middle of the entrance. Atmosphere: The music and UK flags do achieve the intended vibe. Price: I knew it would be more expensive than other places because it’s a spot owned by a famous person. I’m not complaining about the price, but I would have felt better about paying it if the other aspects of the place had lived up to the standards Gordon Ramsay demands...
Read moreIt pains me to write this because my husband and I are HUGE Gordon Ramsay fans, though this comes from a place of care and hope that it helps promote changes at this restaurant. It’s Ramsay’s only restaurant in NYC- right in Times Square- and I would hope it was packed full of people for being so good.
We walked in for a late lunch and the place was completely empty. There were fries and ketchup packets on the floor. There were 4-5 employees we saw behind the counter and walking in for their shifts, though we were greeted by no one despite being the only customers in the restaurant. It took a few minutes for the cashier to come take our order, and another 15 minutes to get our food.
Our fish and chips was missing the fish and the chef didn’t notice until I pointed it out and then added it and we were given the wrong sauces. How did this happen when we were their only customers in the entire restaurant? The fries were soggy, the fish was decent, and the wings were a minute away from being raw. We felt nauseous for a while after leaving and I think it was the undercooked chicken. The ranch sauce was disappointing and made me miss my homemade ranch (I’m happy to share my recipe with you!) The bathroom was low on soap and out of tp, and the baby changing table was found flung open. The tables were unkept and condiments disorganized. It disheartened me to know how many staff were on shift and no one was tending to this important, basic needs of the restaurant.
It pains me to see a restaurant of Gordon’s like this considering he mentors so many phenomenal chiefs and renovates countless struggling restaurants across the country. I was shocked to see one of his own restaurants look and taste like it should be on Kitchen Nightmares. This restaurant is on one of THE most famous streets in the world! I’m writing this because I hope that Gordon sees it and makes a visit to this restaurant. I want better...
Read moreWe were super excited to have a Gordon Ramsay establishment in NYC since the Gordon Ramsay at The London restaurant closed years ago. This fish and chips place did not disappoint! We ordered the fish and shrimp combo with Gordon's Tartar and Sriracha aioli with the Dirty Chips #2, the chicken combo with curry & mango sauce and Dirty Chips #3, and a Biscoff shake (they didn't have the sticky toffee pudding shake because they have a Valentine's Day shake right now that's cherry and chocolate).
The batter was crispy, and the fish was flaky and fresh. The shrimp was also nice and plump. The chicken was super fresh as well. I loved the sauces, especially Gordon's Tartar, which tasted like an elevated tartar sauce. The Dirty Chips were sooooo gooood! The Dirty Chips #3 with the Bacon-Bacon, cheddar cheese, green onion and sour cream (though my husband didn't get the sour cream) tasted like a loaded baked potato! I would totally go back just to order the Dirty Chips #3. The Dirty Chips #2 was truffle, parmesan, chives and parsley and was really tasty. The portions are pretty substantial, so you will be nice and full!
As for drinks, the crafted lemonade was delicious and tasted like there was peach in it, and the sweet tea was the best sweet tea I've ever had! It tasted like it was sweetened with sugar cane, and I can drink a gallon of that stuff. The Biscoff shake was super yummy, and the whipped cream tasted like it was made there, and reminded us of the schlag served with the desserts at Peter Luger Steak House. Absolutely delicious!
We plan on definitely going back to try everything else on the menu. So happy that we get Gordon Ramsay back in NYC! Since it's located in Times Square, it's a nice bite to grab before going to a Broadway show. The service is also great and they bring your food to your table even though it's quick service. Would...
