Read moreThis was our first time here and I could not believe how terrible it was. I've never left an ice cream or gelato store unhappy, but everyone in our group was unhappy here. I have been to Van Leeuwen, Anita's Gelato, and plenty of other stores where they're happy to recommend flavors and let you try samples so you walk away happy with your flavors and experience. Half of our group was allowed to each try 2 flavor samples and then the rest of our group was denied even trying any flavor samples at all. 1 woman was very mean and said the sample is per group not person. But we are all different people so why are we not each allowed to try samples to decide. We don't all share the same mouth and samples. The other woman and man working there were nicer and seemed willing to let us each try something before buying but the mean woman yelled at them and told them not to. I didn't even like the ice cream there and wish I had gone to Van Leeuwen instead. After the mean attitude from the woman I would have walked away from there not buying anything and gone straight to Van Leeuwen across the street, but then I didn't want to give that woman any reason to think we were taking advantage of the samples even though I think 2-3 samples per person is totally reasonable. Other stores don't even limit your sampling and I never take advantage but I didn't like the samples I tried so didn't even want to buy, but forced myself to anyway despite the ice cream being subpar as well. My friend who was able to try 2 flavors liked one and didn't like the other and wanted to buy 2 flavors but didn't know which other one to get so when the guy was serving him at the counter, he asked if the butter pecan was good and the guy nicely gave him a sample and my friend ended up liking it and buying it. However the mean woman saw this and yelled at the guy then took the bucket of sample spoons away from him. I really don't understand why she was having this attitude. None of us would ever go back after such a terrible experience with her (the other employees were definitely nicer) and the ice cream wasn't even that good. I would happily go to Van Leeuwen or any other ice cream store besides this one. I actually go to ice stores quite often and always bring local friends or my guests visiting to tour my favorite ice cream stores and I would never bring...
Read moreThe Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, while undeniably famous and prominently located along the waterfront, may leave one with mixed impressions. This establishment appears to be more renowned for its iconic status than the remarkable taste it offers.
Key Points:
Iconic Location: Situated within a historic fireboat house with stunning views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory holds a prime location that contributes to its fame. It is undoubtedly an attractive spot for tourists alike, garnering substantial foot traffic. Taste: Regrettably, when it comes to the primary aspect of an ice cream parlor - the taste - it appears to fall short of the lofty expectations set by its reputation. The flavors, while decent, do not particularly stand out in a city teeming with diverse ice cream options. Competition in NYC: New York City boasts a vibrant and highly competitive ice cream scene. Given this, there are numerous alternative ice cream establishments throughout the city that offer more innovative flavors and superior taste experiences. Overrated Status: The acclaim and recognition showered upon the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory may have inadvertently elevated expectations to an unattainable level. Consequently, for individuals seeking an extraordinary ice cream adventure, this establishment may leave them yearning for more. In summary, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory is undeniably a part of the city’s cultural fabric and provides a memorable location for enjoying a scoop of ice cream. However, when it comes to the essential criterion of taste, it tends to underwhelm, especially when considering the extensive competition present in New York City. While it is a charming place to visit, it is not the pinnacle of ice cream excellence...
