I reserved this hotel through the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts program. A program that normally guarantees a wonderful experience however this was not the case here at MR C seaport. Upon arrival there is nowhere nearby the hotel to street park to check in without blocking the road. There is not even a proper valet stand for a guest to temporarily park in while they check in and then park their car with the valet. Having no idea of this I call the hotel and am instructed to park illegally in an area where I would block the road. Instead of this I parked the car a little farther as to not block any roads and was assured that was fine (still an illegal spot). After check in I handed my car keys to the front desk who told me the valet would come by shortly for the car when I inquired as to how long my car would be illegally parked in the street Peter at the front desk was nice enough to ask me if I would like to park the car with them or not. I walked away rather upset and made my way up to the room which was nice enough but definitely not worth the price that they are trying to charge for it. Room was good enough seemed clean enough though I did find discarded gloves right under my bed which was slightly off-putting. Everything else went relatively smoothly until the next morning. As I went through my usual morning routine I was shocked to find that the hotel had no hot water. I forced myself to push through as I needed to shower off but my wife could not deal with the ice cold water. I called the front desk and was told the building had no hot water and she was extremely sorry she said as compensation she would love to take something off of our final bill as an adjustment. Fair enough I think until I checkout with Peter who was shocked to find me asking for an adjustment on my bill. Citing that there was no hot water he seemed rather defensive instead of apologetic as he should have been. Nonetheless he went on to tell me that I would be refunded my parking of 65 dollars which was already a miserable experience on its own. As such I would not have to pay any further balance on the room. When I ask him to print out a copy of the final statement he refused and assured me it was taken care of. Taking him at his word I left to find my card charged twice for the parking and something else which I have no understanding of. All in all room is alright enough but the staff and parking situation make it a chore to stay here. If you can afford to stay here you can afford to stay somewhere far nicer than...
Read moreJust stayed here for 4 nights with a friend for my 1st trip to NYC for my birthday. I had no idea where I should stay but I was using points and the options were limited. I picked 33Hotel because it was close to the things we wanted to walk to, and the reviews were good. After having been here for 4 nights I dont know how anyone doesn't give them 5 stars! Chris was AWESOME at checkin. Brought in our bags and gave us recommendations on where to eat that night. Room was cold, and clean. In fact, the room AC stayed at 60 all night - none of that motion sensing crap or having the front desk control the temp. It was amazing because we both like to sleep with the room cold. The bathroom was spacious with very clean white grout and marble tile. I upgraded to deluxe so we would have double sinks and both us girls had plenty of room to get ready at the same time. The toilet had its own private door also. Shower had a rain shower head or a wand, which was nice because I dont like rain shower heads and sometimes its the only option. There's a huge full size mirror which is rare and also perfect for 2 girls getting ready. Keurig coffee maker was perfect. Can lights in the ceiling which provided much better lighting than trying to figure out how to turn every lamp on. For the reviewer who said theres no deadbolt - that's not accurate. Theres a deadbolt, what they dont have is a slide lock. So anyone with a hotel master key could technically open the door. BUT, I always travel with an alarm door stopper so it was not a big deal to us. Theres a doorbell instead of room service having to knock which is more pleasant. And buttons by the handle for DND instead of that annoying door hanger that never stays on. They sent a text on day one and said to text back if we needed anything. Used that several times for more towels and coffee supplies. Staff was super duper friendly and remembered us every time we came or went. Adorable boutique hotel in a quiet, historic 200 year old part of the city. Probably the only original part of NYC left. Tons of fun food and bar options within a block or two. Pharmacy 2 blocks away. Subway 9 min walk. I would not only stay here again but Im recommending it to anyone going to NYC. Met an Irish couple who've been to NYC 25 times who choose to stay here because its quiet, safe, and you can travel to the busy areas and come back to your quiet neighborhood. The complimentary bottle of champagne for my birthday was a cherry on...
Read moreUsually we describe our hotel stays in great detail, lavishing praise where credit is due and pointing out flaws if noticed. None of it will be included in our review of Mr C Seaport. At 3:44 in the morning, 2 staff members, obviously having a fun time, based on their loud laughing and joking conversation, barged in our room, using the master key. To our indignation, they quickly apologized and left the room, clearly embarrassed of their mistake. Even by itself, it was - in our extensive experience - completely unacceptable and unheard of, not only in a 5-star hotel, but in any hotel, irregardless of their rank and status. However, to add insult on injury, upon realizing their "faux pas", the hotel's security left a false report, stating that the room's door was left not closed completely, and thus the 4 AM visit was merely a security walkthrough. The credibility of that is null, for the following reasons: A phone call to the room is customary in situations like this. That wasn't done. A polite knock on the door would be a second scenario. That wasn't done either. With our sleep interrupted and the entire experience feeling quite disturbing, we would still understand that mistakes happen. However, the reception staff, upon our check-out, proved uncooperative and totally unqualified for individuals employed in customer service. Instead of apologizing, two front desk employees proceeded to argue that it was a simple security routine, despite the obvious ridiculousness of the claim. Normally, every case of guest dissatisfaction, mostly much milder than the 4 AM barging in a hotel room, is supposed to be remediated. None of this took place with Mr C Seaport's staff. We felt we had to justify ourselves vs adequate measures on the part of the hotel to fix the wrong and to take care of their underperformance. We could have added more pertinent details (inadequate cleanliness, sub-quality turndown service, etc.) that would wholly disqualify Mr C Seaport from being rated as a 5 star hotel, let alone belonging to the Leading Hotels of the World, but the above episode should suffice to stay away from this property. A 5-star Thompson Beekman hotel, where we have stayed twice, about 9 minutes' walk from Mr C Seaport should be a much better and a much safer...
