If you want a more relaxing way to get around the city, the NYC Ferry is it, especially in great weather and when you are not ultra pressed for time. I don't know how packed it gets with rush hour, unfortunately, and you have to be on time to catch them. There isn't another along in five minutes like subway.
Unlike the subway as well, you are not subject to waiting in dark tunnels if there is a delay. So far, the AC/heat works on all ferry boats I have taken. Since you haaaaave to have a ticket to ride, you are not subject to the homeless (Not looking down my nose at them. They just don't need to be subway nomads.) and fare beaters.
Also, for those who need a way to unwind or rev up, alcoholic beverages and other refreshments usually available onboard or at the pier. A great way to wow friends and fam coming to town on dah...
Read moreThe worst service ever. Last Saturday had to stay on the line around 40 minutes to get to the ferry entrance, stuff said - activate tickets prior boarding and I did it right before boarding. And when I was entering the gate they said that they have “no mask no service” policy. But they DID NOT mention anywhere (sign, tickets, etc) that they require this policy! I had to run to the closest place around with masks available, and once I came back the ferry was gone and they said that I need to stay again in the line (which was about 50 minutes just to get to the ferry). They should mention it before people are getting to the line. I lost my tickets and had ruined evening. I also do not understand what the point is to wear a mask in a ferry, even on planes mask policy is cancelled and this is something...
Read moreI can't say how useful this ferry is to commuters given the price, but as a way to see the city from a different perspective it's well worth the price. The ferry stops at several points along the Brooklyn shoreline and ends up on 34th street or way downtown in Manhattan. The ride itself is very relaxing and picturesque, especially as the sun is going down.
If you plan on riding just as a touristy thing or a fun way to get to Brooklyn Bridge Park, I suggest you terminate your trip downtown. On 34th street it's a LONG walk to any subways, and the bus takes it's time coming and getting across town on weekends. The other landing is much closer to...
