This was the worst Marriott property I have ever stayed at. Don't let the Marriott name fool you. This property doesn't deserve to be associated with the Marriot name/brand. In my opinion it does not deserve 1 star.
Where do I even start. I checked in around 11 pm. When the taxi driver pulled up to the front of the hotel I was instantly disappointed. The picture of the hotel looked nothing like what was advertised on the Marriott website. They had a great photographer. The lobby is miniature and dirty. It looked like a low end old hotel. The attendant at the front desk was rude and lacked basic customer service skills.
I made my reservation 5 months in advance. One of the perks of being a Gold Marriott member is a room upgrade, if available. I had been requesting an upgrade during that 5 month period. This had never been a problem with any other property. An upgrade had always been given to me before my arrival. However, this property said they were unable to upgrade my room until I arrived. I knew those chances would be slim since I was arriving late. At check-in I asked for an upgrade and was told no, since they were over booked. When I got to my room I was disappointed again. If I could, I would have checked out. The room was miniature. My husband and I where in NYC for 5 days to attend a wedding. We had 2 large suitcases, 1 medium, a carry on and a camera bag. There was literally no place for the luggage and the closet was ridiculously small. Two people could not walk around the room at once. One person had to stay in the bathroom or on the side of the bed. There was no place to sit besides the bed. Our view was the cement wall of the building next door. There was literally no space in between for the sun to shine thru. It was a challenge to put make up on due to the VERY poor lightening in the room. The shower handle was broken/loose. My husband could not get any cold water. Only scolding hot water. When I called the front desk to ask for help I was told I would have to wait until the morning. After a 7 hour flight we wanted a shower and sleep. Only after much insisting was I told someone would be up to take a look at the shower facuet. The gentleman who came was the nicest and most helpful hotel employee I met. The room was unbelievable and not in a good way.
I have traveled extensively and the majority of the time stay at Marriott properties. What I have learned is a lot of Fairfield Inn's are franchises. They are not living up to the Marriott name. Not only in accommodations but customer service. They are lacking in all areas. Everytime I passed by the front desk there was a guest complaining. The front desk staff were totally unprepared or trained adequately to handle these compliants. One gentleman said he had been trying to get a manger to call him for 3 days and it hadn't happened.
The Fairfield Inn Financial District failed in every category. I have visited NYC on numerous occassions and know rooms can be small but this room was miserable. At least the bed was comfortable. The hotel is a block or two from the water. Its in a fairly quiet location with a few resturants within walking distance. I felt safe walking the area during the day.
I also noticed that this property will charge you for the first night's stay on your credit card as soon as you book your stay. I booked my stay thru Marriott. Check your Marriot account to make sure you receive your reward points. I didn't. I had to call customer service.
I would recommend staying at another hotel. This property is not worth it. In the future I will not be staying at any Fairfield Inn's. My stays at this chain have been unsatisfactory. The rooms and service are sub par quality.
I realize we all have different standards and expectations. Pictures and reviews can be deceiving. This property did not meet mine and was a disappoint on...
Read moreWe stayed here a couple weeks ago. June 2018. In short...The staff made it wonderful! The room was clean clean clean. It was smaller than we are used to but big for New York. No bed bugs,no grime, just relief, and INCREDIBLE service!!!
Here are the Details:
We came down for breakfast and were warmly greeted by several staff including Victor, who were quick to refill food and make waffles for the many guests. It was packed and yet in a short time Victor and others made us each feel cared for and welcome. Then Victor came over and handed my kids cute socks and treats to give their Daddy for Father's Day. When I explained we don't celebrate but we are celebrating our wedding anniversary he exclaimed that's wonderful and he must bring us some champagne for our room later! Not only did he deliver chilled champagne and glasses with another very nice female staff member but they hand wrote a card to go with it.
But it doesn't end there. After a long day of exploring our weary children and us walked in to be greeted again by Victor I think heading home. Seeing our tired kids he put down his things and said "I have something! Just wait, just wait!" With a big smile he came back with a piece of fancy cake drizzled in chocolate with two spoons. My children's eyes lit up and they laughed and were once again happy and renewed. So were we! Because he also brought us chilled sparkling fancy water with glasses and limes. As they gobbled the treat he returned again with numerous goodies and little toys for the kids to have. Happy kids makes happy parents, and happy parents share the experience with others and rebook with the hotel!!
If you want more details this is How it started... After staying the previous night outside the city in a massive room with riverside views I felt more and more clusterphobic as we got into NYC traffic. And then to enter a tiny lobby and even smaller elevator with green lights making us all look like aliens (which later we thought was funny).
Finally we get to our room but could not fit! Our luggage tumbled our kids running around our legs...I thought oh no!! What did we book? But then I started my hotel check list: sheets...no bed bugs and CLEAN Bathroom toilet and floor...clean! And surprisingly spacious. We opened the curtains and saw...well a wall and an alley but we did have privacy! Once the suitcases for a family of four were rolled away we had more room and saw that it was indeed a good and CLEAN room.
Even when the shower seemed to not drain right a maintenance staff member came up right away. He checked it out then showed us that the drain has a valve closure knob, which I have never seen before, and he did not make us feel stupid as he explained.
Each day we returned tired but were welcomed by smiling helpful staff, cookies, and delicious cold lemon water in the lobby. Plus, They kindly stored our luggage after checkout (not begrudgingly like another hotel we stayed at) so we could feed the kids at the water front restaurant just a block away. Then they had a taxi waiting ready for us when it was time to go to the airport.
Every staff there was kind and helpful. We WILL come again and send everyone we know.
Thank you Victor and many others. Thank you management for allowing the staff to be vibrant, happy, and stocked so they can do...
Read moreI have read the latest reviews and I must admit that I was worried about what the stay at the hotel would be like. But in the end, it turned out, again, that the loudest are always the critics, who would like to have everything gilded and brought to their feet. The most negatives appeared between December and February - but there was a wave of omicron everywhere in the world and a huge number of employees were "caught" at home in quarantines, including their risky contacts. Our stay in March was already going well, at the reception always 1-2 employees, the rooms cleaned daily, at breakfast also 2 employees did a fantastic job. Breakfast was pleasant from 7 to 10 o'clock, the staff tried to do their best. The selection was quite limited, but there was an effort to offer a slightly different combination each day. There were about cyclically 3 types of warm sandwiches, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, bacon, 2 types of omelette, bacon, turkey sausages. Every day there were waffles (need to "make" yourself from the dough machine), a selection of yogurts, some fruit, coffee and tea. Hot water and coffee in a thermos were then available throughout the day and night. A little advice for breakfast critics - yes, if you sleep by 9 o'clock and come for breakfast at 9.30 - then you can expect that there will not be much to choose from. The best time is around 7:30, on Monday there is a delivery of food supplies, so the staff prepares everything a little later. And on Sunday, some supplies of food variants are already missing. Another piece of advice for critics - if something is missing, ask for it! I felt like I had a bad dream when the hot water ran out and half the dining room sat upset and waited for a miracle ... I was the only one who approached the staff and in 2 minutes a new batch of hot water was delivered. Sandwiches were missing, I asked for them, they were in a minute, tea was missing, I told the staff, they arranged immediately. Coffee was missing in the afternoon or evening, wasn't there a tea bag? I told the receptionist, and he immediately brought everything from the kitchen. Unlike the angry guests who came and left immediately when something was missing. They won't bother to tell anyone about it. As for the room - above standard NY size. I would be interested in the size of the suitcases, which according to some reviews do not fit into the room - we got 3 spread out on the ground. The hotel is in the downtown financial district. so somehow you can't expect anything other than a view from the window to the wall next door, or to the wall a bigger piece next door, or to the wall across the street. But it's NY, not the Mexican Riviera with the necessary sunset views. Everything worked in the room, I agree that the heating is noisier, but you could get used to it. The advantage is that you can set any temperature at any time and not everything is centrally controlled as in other hotels. Overall, it was a very good destination - the week's stay ran...
