CakeChef — Restaurant in New York

I normally go to “Mother Mousse” for my occasion cakes. Their cakes are delicious, but way pricey. I decided to give Cake Chef a try as their prices seemed more reasonable, and their cakes looked good. I ordered a 1/4 chocolate sheet cake with choc mousse filling and whipped cream outside. The cake was decorated beautifully. We could not wait to cut it. It sliced beautifully and the cake was thick and moist. However, as soon as I put it in my mouth, I knew changing from Mother Mousse to Cake Chef was a mistake. The choc mousse filling was heavy, and tasted like lard with cocoa powder mixed in, not light and airy like a true mousse should be. The whipped cream outside was the same in texture. In fact, it stuck to the roof of my mouth like lard would. I would guess it was in part whipped cream, but there was definitely other stuff in their and that deterred from the fresh whipped cream flavor and texture. Mother Mousse’s choc mousse filling is so light and smooth. You can eat a bowl of it, so good! And their fresh whipped cream is just that. Fresh whipped cream, no heavy additives, no sticking to the roof of your mouth, just light, fresh real cream! I won’t be going back to cake chef. Very disappointed. As a native Staten Islander, I have been going to this bakery for some time and everything is always amazing. I picked up my cake just now June 22, 2024 (Red Velvet Cake) for my 60th Birthday. I had their Red Velvet Cake many times and it's always a religious experience. lol. However the real reason why I'm writing this review is because the amazing young ladies who work there. There was a young lady who was so pleasant and nice, I was actually taken back. I even told her I'd like to take her to all the young people on Staten Island so she can train them. I hate the fact that this is no longer the norm, so when you are helped by a young person who is so professional and kind, you notice. Her parents did an amazing job, I wish I would have gotten her name so I can give her a shout out. Thank you!! You...

This cash only bakery may look small, but they have a great assortment of cookies, cakes, pastries, and more. It is so hard to pick something as a first-time buyer, so I opted for some lobster tails and slices of crumb cake. I was truly astounded on how reasonably priced everything is, especially since everything I purchased was great. The lobster tails were huge, loaded with cream, and were very flaky. The store itself is clean and the staff is very friendly and patient. Also, parking doesn't seem to be an issue in this area, so that is another plus.

There are other really good bakeries in Staten Island, but I think this is one of the best. I will definitely stop in again the next time I am...
