We tried three donuts last weekend: the berry olive oil, the apple pie, and a lemon vanilla flavor that was a limited time collab.
I am a donut LOVER and was so excited to try Cloudy Donut after passing them so many time when they were closed. They are only open Fridays-Sunday 10am-4pm.
The main selling point for this donut shop is that they are Vegan friendly!! If I were vegan, I could see how this would be a top donut shop.
As a non-vegan, I was disappointed in the texture and taste of the donuts. We got the Berry Olive Oil on Saturday, and while tasty, I found it to be very greasy. On Sunday we got the Apple Pie and another limited time Lemon Vanilla (?) flavor. The flavors for both were very good. However, on both days, I found the larger traditional shaped donuts to taste almost...stale. There is a freshness to donuts that I've come to expect, but for some reason, it wasn't our experience here. It may be that vegan donuts just have a different texture and shelf life but I was sad that our Sunday donuts were very dry and had that "old greasy" texture to them when we bought them, which I feel like you don't experience with normal donuts until the 2nd or 3rd day. We went at 3pm on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday so maybe going early morning would be better.
For $6 a donut, I was just expecting a lot more freshness. The flavors were so good but the overall greasy/staleness of the donuts made the overall taste fall flat.
If in NYC, I would prefer Doughnut Plant ($4-$6/doughnut) over Cloudy Donuts but definitely recommend this shop if you are Vegan! If you are in the neighborhood and craving a donut and don't mind paying $6 for one, definitely try this shop out. However, not worth going out of your way to make this a...
Read moreFirst I’ll start off by saying I’ve been waiting for months just to visit this donut shop. I’m vegan and donuts are my all time favorite dessert so my expectations were high. I traveled over an hour from Manhattan just to come and visit the shop. The show is quaint and well decorated. The staff is very friendly but I knew something was concerning when I didn’t see any prices listed in the store or on the website. I actively support black owned businesses on a consistent basis so I was mentally preparing myself for the bill since smaller businesses have to charge more to remain profitable amongst their larger counterparts. There were a variety of flavors so I wanted to try a few. I bought 3 mini donuts and 1 regular sized sweet potato cinnamon bun donut. Upon check out I asked for a receipt and was only afforded the option of text or email. Upon reviewing my receipt I noticed that I was charged a Maryland fee though the donuts were purchased in New York which seems a bit suspicious but c’est la vie. The sweet potato cinnamon bun was my favorite but I still don’t think that in any universe it should cost $10 ! The strawberry mini donut was my second favorite. The other two donuts (chai powdered and crème brûlée donuts) left a bit to be desired. I don’t mind spending money on quality items. I pay a ridiculous amount for rent in Manhattan, choose to fly first class on premier airlines, purchase vip tickets to concerts and am willing to buy luxury items but I cross the line when I end up spending $30 for 4 donuts, 3 of which were mini. I’d rather purchase the vegan donuts at Whole Foods but it was worth a try. I’d encourage more price...
Read moreI’ve finally experienced Cloudy Donut(s)Boy oh boy what a treat…pun intended! I just made the store before closing(all the while praying they didn’t sell out for the day)I was warmly greeted by the store associate as if it wasn’t 3 minutes before closing. The space was adorable, having big letter ballon’s spelling the word Dream & “Donut stop believing is brilliantly sweet. Given the beautiful back story of the company, intentional messaging for customers to read is truly appreciated. I’m elated to share Cloudy Donuts is definitely worth all the hype! These artistically crafted gourmet donuts are truly well thought out and with every bite it’s clear as day love is in the ingredient’s. I had the a s’mores, ginger peach, balsamic fig & two other flavors I’m still fantasizing about. I don’t think people really grasp/understand what it takes to make something that usually has gluten, eggs, milk, soy & more in it & create something entirely delicious with real health conscious ingredients. I’m thrilled for the future of this company, not only are they opening another location in Manhattan, they also support/showcase other creative chefs of color through their “The Brown Collective” initiative. Further cultivating the future of community & unique health conscious dining of delectable donuts. Absolutely can’t wait to visit again for their...
