Great place to spend outdoor time in Brooklyn. Walking and biking paths meander through man made hills and woodland areas making you forget your in the city but, those incredible Manhattan views will remind you where you are. There is plenty of exercise to be had here with basketball, handball, table tennis, bocce ball pits, an outdoor roller skating rink, all covered by a huge roof making it truly all weather. There is plenty of running courses you could plot out with flat and hilly areas that make for a great workout. In summer they have a popup pool for kids with swimming lessons. There are built in charcoal BBQ's with tables on the waterfront which are first come first user and a 1 hour usage time limit so start early, I love to go early and cook breakfast there. There are many grassy areas for lounging and tanning, no pets allowed on the lawn areas except where specified. Restaurants are outside of the park with an abundance of choices, just Google to find your favorite food choice, believe me, it's there. You can get to the park on the A, C line, I get off at High Street and walk down the hill to the park. The park is also accessible by ferry boat with stops at the end of Atlantic Ave. on the South end and the other dock right under the Brooklyn Bridge on the North end of the park, both stops are in the park. BBQing ends at 10:00 pm. The park closes at 1 AM so it is well lit for your evening activities. So enjoy all the park has to offer and you will...
Read moreBrooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5 is a dynamic and vibrant part of the Brooklyn waterfront, offering a variety of recreational activities and stunning views. It’s dedicated to active recreation, featuring playing fields for sports like soccer, lacrosse, rugby, flag football, and ultimate Frisbee. Spectators can enjoy the games from bleachers and benches, or plan a picnic on the 30-foot wide promenade with magnificent views of lower Manhattan, Governors Island, and New York Harbor. The pier also includes a BBQ area, known as Picnic Peninsula, with hibachi-style grills and salvaged wood picnic tables. For children, there are playgrounds adjacent to the picnic area, and the entire family can enjoy a treat from OddFellows Ice Cream Co. after a day of fun and...
Read moreAdjacent to Brooklyn's Pier 6 (duh), Pier 5 was once a defunct slab of concrete jutting out into the water. After several months of construction, they did a beautiful job transforming the space into an all-purpose turf field lined for both soccer and lacrosse with stunning views of downtown Manhattan.
Next to Pier 5 is an equally new picnic area with a handful of fixed charcoal grills. I can't wait until our summer Brooklyn beach volleyball league (games at the adjacent Pier 6) kicks off so we can have a team BBQ one night beforehand!
By itself, Pier 5 is a beautiful addition to the Brooklyn waterfront, but add in the park amenities at Pier 6, Fornino, and the nearby bars and concessions, and you've got the makings of some awesome...
