Park Slope is my last choice for eating neighborhoods in the city but this spot will have me returning any time I’m in the area. In general I find the restaurants here expensive and lacking for what you get so I try to avoid eating in the slope… Colombia in Park Slope was delicious, friendly and a hit for the four of us with differing tastes (including one pescatarian and one who doesn’t eat red meat)
I’m used to some dishes being hit or miss whenever I eat out but wow! Absolutely everything was amazing. I would turn back time and eat the whole meal over again, it was so enjoyable. I also noticed many friends/family of the restaurant dining here and I think that’s a terrific sign of a great place.
Our favorites: The pizza de patacon was generous, and I’ve never enjoyed a vegetarian option so much. Textures, sauces, tastes and portion were so good, we were fighting for the last bites.
Sampler with mini empanadas was great and the grilled chorizo was the best chorizo I’ve ever had… I normally don’t like ground chorizo or sausages much. Guacamole was great. Bonus, everything reheat really well for leftovers days later!
Ajiaco soup came in a cauldron sized pot. I thought it was one serving but it can serve 3-4. Order to share!
Mango salmon was enjoyed by everyone as well.
They were so kind, at the end of the night they still generously refilled our waters and allowed us to sit and talk even after our food had been packed up. This was a better experience than 95% of the trendier, more popular restaurants I’ve dined at in New York. Credit to @righteouseats who filmed a video here that turned me on to it. Definitely come and bring a group to...
Read moreIt’s really unfortunate that I’ve had to give this a one-star review.
I started going to Colombia Park Slope in early 2019. I’d come over from Crown Heights about twice a week for the food, which is admittedly good. During lockdown and after I tried to support them from afar, ordering a few times. When we returned to ‘normal’ I returned to visiting the dining room.
I’ve always been a generous tipper because I know it’s not easy work and I also want to support my favorite places. It's always based on professionalism.
On my recent and now last visit (after what, 30+ visits?) I ordered my usual, which comes with beans, and my guests ordered a entree that didn’t come with beans, so he ordered a side of them. Food came out but his beans didn’t. No big deal, he ate some of mine and that was that.
When the check arrived it had the extra order of beans on there, despite not getting them, and 18% gratuity. But when I brought the charge for the missing side dish to the waiter's attention, he (Pelon according to the bill) took the check begrudgingly and returned with it corrected. However…
While he did remove the beans, he then changed the gratuity from 18% up to 20%. While he thought he was being slick, you don’t get one by me and you certainly won’t take advantage of my generosity from previous visits.
I will never return to this place, sadly, after all of this time. It’s obvious that you think it’s okay to take advantage of and try to get one over on your...
Read moreThis restaurant is very welcoming! The staff are super friendly and nice. There were lots of table options when we visited so we got to choose where we wanted to sit. We chose the backyard patio. There’s lots of decoration and it feels clean. The waiter presents us with iPad menus which is a first for me but it was interesting.
We ordered the sancocho, shrimp ceviche, and corn empanadas. The ceviche was on the sweeter side for me. It had tomatoes and onions which were refreshing. Dipping the deep fried plantains into the ceviche sauce was very yummy. I thought it was funny that they garnished the plate with a tiny amount of lettuce and carrot.
This would be the same lettuce and carrot in the salad that comes with the sancocho which is a beef rib soup with root veg. This dish was absolutely amazing. It tasted so hearty, warming and nourishing. Maybe it’s my nostalgia kicking in but it really made my insides warm and fuzzy.
The corn empanadas we got were good. The waiter recommended one of each flavor so we got cheese, beef and chicken. I’m not sure if Colombian empanada filling is normally a mixture of meat and root veg but in this empanadas case, the filling was a mixture of 20% meat and 80% root veg (yucca?) I would have preferred more meat.
All in all a solid experience, if I ever myself craving a simple but nourishing bowl of soup I will come here and order...
