Five stars because it’s hard to find truly authentic regional Chinese cuisine in this part of brooklyn. Order: soup dumplings, double cooked pork and salt and pepper shrimp. No, soup dumplings aren’t Szechuan, but these were reasonably well executed. The order was delivered quickly via car (the restaurant does its own seamless deliveries and that seems to be a really good thing) and these didn’t suffer from the delay that many soup dumplings will. To be fair, the dough wasn’t the impossibly thin variety of an iconic xiao long bao, but the slightly thicker dumpling may be the reason why it traveled reasonably well. Double cooked pork was classically prepared (thankfully no fake corn and dried shitake mushrooms in this version) with sliced pork belly, leeks and the appropriate Szechuan seasonings and sauce. The pork had a nice smoky flavor - nicely done. I wasn’t as much a fan of the salt and pepper shrimp - it seemed like they got confused and made it more like a doughy tempura than the classic preparation. But still a fair amount of large shrimp (10 in my box) and we’ll-prepared if not truly authentic. The menu does give away the fact that they are trying to satisfy two audiences, authentic Szechuan aficionados as well as Chinese American tastes. In this part of brooklyn, you can do...
Read moreIt was our first time ordering and we wouldn’t order again. The food was sub par and not authentic. My General Tso’s chicken tasted oddly, excessively of cloves and was not the usual savory sauce. My husband’s Kung Pao chicken was also deep fried, but it’s traditionally not served fried and he didn’t want it fried. The spicy chili wontons were not spicy or chili flavored at all but covered in a weird peanut sauce. They only gave one rice instead of two. Also, the delivery estimate was 30 min but it took them 90 min to deliver; we live less than a mile away from the restaurant too. And when they arrived, they didn’t read the delivery instructions and called me asking for the apartment number even though I told them that the building doesn’t have apartment numbers, and to ring the buzzer with my name. The driver kept asking me over and over and I kept telling him to ring the buzzer with my name and go to my floor. Would...
Read moreEDIT: Update Jan. 2022. I think they changed chefs because the last 5 or so orders I've had from them have been bad. We've tried both old favorites and some new items. I appreciate that they have been expanding the menu and certain things are still good (wontons, Chong Qing spicy chicken) but overall I can't recommend them.
Can’t believe they don’t have more reviews!! Skip Han dynasty and order from here. We’ve been ordering authentic tofu once a month for 4 years. The Chong Qing spicy chicken is our favorite, but we also enjoy the mapo tofu, the spicy wontons, hot and sour sweet potato noodles, various vegetables (including snow pea leaves!), cold noodles, shredded potato and more. They also have ultra authentic fish dishes. The beef soup is tasty and well packaged for transit. Don’t sleep on this place!! Best Chinese takeout in NYC.
That said, skip the dishes like lo mein, general tsos etc. And the home style...
