Devin's Fish & Chips — Restaurant in New York

Pressed for time, my husband asked if I could find a spot that was open late that served seafood and vegetables. I eventually landed upon this place, and my goodness - do you have a loyal customer in me!

Let me just say that this is the BEST fish plate I’ve had in the city. Bar none. I’ve lived in NYC for nearly 15 years, and Devin’s Fish and Chips did not disappoint. Somehow, the food travelled so well, and my apartment is not close by. I ordered the salmon steak, fried okra, and sweet plantains. WOW. First of all, the portions were generous. Secondly, the salmon was cooked to perfection! Not overcooked, and it had the perfect amount of fat. The char on the salmon skin and the seasoning? FLAWLESS. My husband hates salmon skin, and this was the first time he didn’t share it and ate it himself! The bit of lemon on the salmon was perfect as well.

The fried okra was CRISPY. As in, the food was in transit for at least 20 mins. and was STILL extremely crispy. Perfect blend of texture - crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. The sweet plantains were thick and gently sweet - somehow, they had barely any oil on them, and I couldn’t even process how they were able to do that! I typically like my plantain on the sweeter side, so I am going to go in person and see if they have even riper plantains. Regardless, I devoured every last bit of my plate.

My husband ordered the salmon steak with fried okra and green beans. I tasted some of his green beans and was so pleasantly surprised! They were slightly crunchy and had a bit of sweetness to them - almost balsamic. So, so good. My goodness, I am still dreaming about this food.

Not to mention, we also ordered a fish sandwich and we were too full to eat it! But I saved it for lunch and will also go in person to review it properly.

From the food portions to the condiments, this place is generous, and that’s such a rare trait these days in the restaurant industry. For that, and for the incredible quality of their food, they have more than earned...

I have lived in this neighborhood for over 7 years and i have never experienced the service i received today. I always go here despite the wait because its that good but the trick is to call ahead i have been doing soo since the reopening. Today i did the same as i always do i called while i was on 134th street placed my order for a fish shrimp and chip special (9$) i hang up walk to the train and arrive maybe 10 min later i walk in its pretty empty i know if there is orders behind her to ask if mines was ready but there wasnt so she asked me my name and said it wasnt done yet. Maybe 15 min later a order comes up she yells out a name no one answers and she bags it up. Three min later a lady comes in and places an order of all jumbo shrimp pays now she is behind me and two other guys who werent there they placed their order and said they would return this is alll after ive been there so now their orders are coming up and im like wait i ordered over the phone how could their order they placed in front of me be ready i know the system i have been eating here for years this is the only seafood spot i like .So i go up to the counter and ask the lady why my little order (9$ special) was not ready as well she tells me that i have to wait and that people who came in had to go before me .....SINCE WHEN???.... ok now she turns around and looks at the order that has been sitting there for about 10 min and tells me ohh your order is ready after i paid so now im like wait this order has been sitting here you never have called my name or anything to see if maybe it was mines. She rudely points to a sign and said NO REFUNDS!!! Now i was very upset i had stood there for over 20 min and now i have cold food i have to take. This was the worst customer service i have seen in years never would i think this would happen i would of gladly waited for another but instead i will write this review...

Was excited to try this place because I've been binging @Famous and wanted something different. Unfortunately, they never answer the fone so I spent the better part of an hour calling on and off and by the time someone answered which was 445pm they immediately said hold so I did and after about 5mins I hung up and called back it is now 452pm and I am placed on hold again. This time the lady get on the fone and when I attempt to order the daily special I am told they don't take phone orders for the daily special after 430pm and you MUST be in the store physically to pay for the food b4 5pm because people were ordering the special but not picking it up until after 5pm and she made sure to inform me that she is just following the boss' orders because he is very strict about it..okay. is that posted anywhere?..how is this okay?..yall dont answer then by the time you do oh well cant take my order even if I pay over the fone or rush down there now bc I'm only a block away you're telling me yu wont take my order she said nope!..she is not allowed too..okay.fine..I'll spend my coins at famous then..may try this place in the future if perhaps famous is closed that day or sumthin but it is very unfortunate a first time potential several times a week customer would be treated in such a we dont need your business manner..I can only imagine the food excels the service otherwise idk how this business is...
