I was referred here awhile ago when I was in the neighborhood looking at apartment. I asked the real estate guy where to eat, and after he rattled off a few generic options, I stopped him and said I wanted jerk chicken. I love jerk chicken, I never get to have it, and I knew there were a lot of options in the neighborhood. Errol's was only 5 blocks away and is situated right on a corner. It's a bakery but it makes a variety of West Indian food. After talking politics a bit with the guy behind the counter and grabbing a small jerk chicken platter for like $6, I headed out and ate everything on the subway ride home. It was pretty damn addictive. First off the sauce was on the side which made eating neater and also controlled the spice level. It was a bit heavy on the vinegar but also flavorful and very hot. The chicken quality was decent and I got plenty of skin which is always a good thing. They chopped up the bird, breaking the bones which I'm not crazy about, but most take out places do that. The rice, plantains, and veggies were all great. This wasn't fancy eating, but it was a great homestyle meal that was well worth the price and was needed at the time. After Exquisite Delight, this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBought a fish soup that was half oil half water which tasted like water. I called to inform them that the soup was watery & no good & the woman who answered just said Iām sorry. After the soup sat for 3 hours after a nap. I went back to it & saw a third of it had oil sitting on the top. that was surprising because soup usually doesnāt have oil sitting so heavily. upon calling back to let them know this & wanting to bring it to show them, I was met with disrespect saying once I walk out with food there is no return on it. Iām said, āeven if the food being served is no good?ā I was expecting a level of curiosity atleast from them to say bring it let me see or something. Instead she said ⦠āonce you walk out that itās. & u called from this morning So either way u canāt bring it back. We donāt accept food back! So I was expected to go drink oily watery soup. Then once I said the Soup was oily she responded. Itās salmon and itās tea not soup which clearly the menu said fish soup . I bought the soup around 11 am shouldnāt go bad by 3 pm. I would advice to not to buy food from here if your looking for quality food & service. If youāre into watery and oily soup, this is the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been to Errol's a few times now and can honestly say they have some of the best food in NYC. I've tried the curry chicken, jerk chicken and stewed chicken as main courses so far. All were amazing but curry chicken is my go to now. The rice and beans is always cooked right. Has yet to be hard or mushy at all. The sweet plantains are always a favorite of mine but even the steamed veggies are good. I finally tried the beef patty today. Although I haven't had many homemade beef patties in my life, this was definitely the best one I've ever had. The bread pudding baked goods are all amazing. Sweet, moist and super heavy. The cassava bread is perfect as well. The fried chicken is top notch, regular and bbq style. All the left overs warm up great too. I really don't think the food could get any better. The service is equally as good. Both of the ladies have been very helpful with all my questions and have been very welcoming. I'm in the area once a week or so and can't leave without stopping at...
