I have to be honest, I'm a little confused as to why this spot has so many great reviews. As someone who loves to give 5-star ratings on Google, I'm sad to leave 3-stars for Felice. I was really excited to try this place, it's located on beautiful Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights and the restaurant looks so lovely from the outside. I recently came in with my group on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was pretty empty. So, you'll understand my surprise when we were given the table right by...the bathroom (when half the restaurant was sitting empty) after checking-in for our reservation. Normally, this wouldn't bother me, but when a line formed by the bathroom - there was subsequently a line of people standing uncomfortably close to our table (to the point that these people may as well have joined in our group's conversation).
The restaurant remained relatively slow throughout the afternoon/early evening that we were present and several tables remained open (as did the patio). It seemed that the bar and the wait staff wanted to match this energy, because cocktails took quite a long time to come out each time we ordered a round. Additionally, despite plates being cleared after appetizers and water glasses intermittently sitting empty throughout our meal, service remained slow. Things picked-up a bit towards the end of our stay, but maybe that was because they wanted us to scoot out of the restaurant? As a former waitress myself, I certainly understand that things happen, but for the prices here, the slow service seemed a bit unacceptable (particularly given the emptiness of the place).
Further, let's talk about the portion sizes: really small. This was the case for appetizers, salads, mains, and desserts. This absolutely did not seem congruent with the prices. I've been to many Italian places here in New York City and I get it, sometimes the smaller portions are consistent with quality/price and the dining experience is excellent. In my personal opinion, there are many other authentic Italian places you can try that have more delicious food, bigger portions, and better prices (some of which are located close to Felice, right in Brooklyn).
Overall, I'm giving 3-stars for the food being decent and the atmosphere being nice (with the exception of us being seated right by the restroom). Our waitress was kind, despite the slow service, which also made-up for the experience. In all, I don't think I'll...
Read moreMy wife, 7 yo daughter and myself came for dinner tonight (11/11)for a 6pm reservation. Being that there were many 4 top tables available they stuck us right between to the kitchen and the bathroom.
After looking at the menu for a while, our server, soft spoken gentleman, told us the specials. After about 25 minutes (it wasn’t busy during this time) he finally came back to take our order. My daughter had spaghetti and we asked for meatballs (combo not on the menu), my wife had the Pappardelle w/ sausage and I had the chicken Milanese. We also shared as an app the fried artichoke/ calamari. This appetizer took 30 min, a table next to us who arrived way after us received there app and even their entrees before we got ours. Their food runner asked if we had received our calamari, I replied “no”. Our server said it will be right out. 5 minutes later we received it along with another app complimentary since we waited so long.
Both apps were pretty good, but I think the calamari was delivered by their vendor frozen, since I was hoping to see the tentacles of the calamari as well.
Once our entrees came out, the kitchen provided another bowl of plain spaghetti. I think the server entered the order adding another bowl to my daughter’s original order with the meatballs.
My chicken Milanese was literally paper thin! I had about 4 bites with the arugula. The mgr I believe saw that I barely touched my entree, but neglected to make any effort to investigate the issue or stop by for any sort of feedback.
My daughter had mango sorbet and they brought out the cheesecake to make up for our negative experiences.
I’ve been the hospitality industry for over 28 years, I know their team is ironing the kinks over there, but I hope over the next couple of weeks. They will be running...
Read moreFelice Montague is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood and we were so thrilled when they opened their doors recently. The food and service are amazing and ambiance is sophisticated yet inviting. Everyone is gracious, helpful and welcoming. They are accommodating in a way that many New York restaurants are not, which was so refreshing. Despite the fact that they have other locations, Felice Montague feels like a neighborhood spot in the very best way.
Examples of the lovely service include: No reservation? We’ll do our best to seat you we just need one moment. (Instead of the usual NY line: “ooohh no reservation?? It’s going to be 1hr 45mins”) Food allergy? No problem at all. Dinner with your baby? Here’s a table to accommodate your stroller!
They go above and beyond and do it with kindness. If you go early the restaurant is often filled with families and children, which is such a delight to see, and the staff welcomes guests of all ages while the vibe remains elegant.
We’ve tried the soup, many of the salads, various pasta dishes, the branzino, a few sides, chicken dishes, the burger and the warm chocolate cake and everything has been excellent! The soup is a must try. The fish was so fresh—a repeat order for sure, but we also love trying new things each time we go. The Felice house red wine is absolutely delicious, as are the cocktails, and the Lambrusco is an unexpected treat.
If you find yourself in Brooklyn Heights, or live in the neighborhood and have been considering a night out, Felice is definitely worth a visit. In fact, it’s worth...
