I want to leave this comment since the hotel is rather pricey, and it's important to make an informed decision when you are about to pay a few thousand dollars for a few nights.
I'll start with the good things.
Location, location, location! The location is simply superb, no doubts here. You have the Lower East Side, East Village, SoHo, and NoHo. So all the hip spots are just a walking distance away. Also, public transportation is nearby, and there is a convenient taxi drop-off point too.
Next is the overall design of the place. It really gives off a movie vibe. You definitely feel like a main character walking into this dimly lit, neon environment and seeing all the slick décor.
This one might not apply to all visitors, but I had a fantastic view from my room.
Next are the facilities located on the premises. Sadly, there is no pool, but there is a very solid gym with everything you need. However, be there early, or it might get very busy.
There are two or three restaurants in the building. Unfortunately, all of them are upscale, so if that’s not your jam, then unfortunately, there is nothing else.
The staff was friendly, and in general, I had no issues with communication.
Now to the negatives.
Although the hotel is superbly designed from a visual standpoint, in my opinion, the user experience design is noticeably lagging behind.
Let’s start with the rooms. Not only are they small, but the space is organized quite inefficiently. I have stayed in small rooms before and I know it could have been done better. Here at Moxy, you will be constantly bumping into corners of the furniture, piling up your belongings on small surfaces not suitable for this, and having your coat touch the dust on the floor as the non-removable hangers hang pretty low (yet, there are very few of them).
Then, the cleanliness. While someone tidied our bed every night, changed the towels, and emptied the bin, I am not sure anyone was actually wiping the floor, as there was obvious dust and pieces of paper all over the floor.
Next is the restroom. First, the toilet and the shower are divided by a very peculiar door that caused me a few bruises on my fingers, especially when it was dark. Then comes the lighting. It is designed in a way that there is a master switch and then local light source switches, making it very challenging to turn on only the toilet light solely, which is very uncomfortable if you have other people already asleep.
Elevators. There is this smart system that tells you which elevator to use when you select your destination. Apparently, it doesn’t work well if there is even slight traffic between floors. We ended up waiting for around 5 minutes. For a building with only 14 stories, I don't think this is acceptable.
Lastly, the restaurants. I know I previously mentioned them as an advantage, but it’s true that all of them blend into one entity, so I don’t understand the point of having three restaurants if there are barely any distinctions.
Overall, I would say it is a good place if you are there for a weekend and plan to spend your time in the surrounding area, but for longer stays, I would consider...
Read moreComfy beds. Good location. Mediocre staff. Cleanliness could be better for $350 a night.
We were there for there nights for my b-day. We had a double room (two queen beds). I had booked a room with a view, which costs more than just a regular room. When we checked-in they gave us a room on the fifth floor with a view of a side street….I went downstairs right away to inquire about the reservation. The two people on shift, a girl with a nose ring called Sydney and a guy with glasses named Josh, were quite unprofessional. When I explained to them that I had booked double room with a view the girl turned to the guy and said, “I told you to tell them to take those photos down.” Then they proceeded to tell me that it’s basically false advertisement and that there were no double rooms with a view. I started questioning them and they started telling me tales out of 1001 Nights….🙄I mean, they tried to BS me with stupid excuses after I told them that I was okay with the room if they refund me the extra we had payed for the non-existent view. They refused at first and again started saying very generic stuff that didn’t make any sense. She even said that I should feel lucky, because I had some view at all and was not stuck with a courtyard view. The nerve she had. If I had not paid extra, I wouldn’t have cared about a view, but for them to try to scam people and be coy about it is unacceptable.
Finally it was revealed that they did have one room according to them with a view, but it was occupied. Long story short, we moved to that room the next day and some of the money was refunded. It did have a view of the WTC.
They could’ve let me know about that in advance when we checked- in or in an email. I found the whole behavior very sneaky and scammy. The explanation about the false advertisement was downright weird. It would not have bothered me had they disclosed the situation beforehand.
The rooms are basic. For $350 a night we would’ve liked at least hooks in the bathroom for the towels. Where are we supposed to hang the towels!?
No mini fridge. The housekeeping came once and threw our snacks and leftover pizza away.UNFORGIVABLE. We had left them neatly wrapped on the desk and they took everything away plus a bottle of water we had bought. But the cleaning lady left her cleaning products on the bathroom counter… my mom thought it was a subtle message for us to clean the room ourselves, maybe?
The second room had smudges on the window and the drapes had come off from the hooks. No attention to detail.
Then they have this weird $30 “credit” to use at their coffee shop or bar. Coffee and pastries are mediocre at best.
Basically would not recommend and would never stay at...
Read moreI am disappointed with my stay for several reasons. I was coming for work this week for training and i had informed the hotel a few days prior that i would be arriving around 2am ( Wednesday morning 3/22) i started phone correspondence Thursday 3/16 and the rep i spoke to then encouraged me to ask for a red eye check in to accommodate that time and i was told to call back and ask a manager. So saturday i spoke to a rep named yaz Explaining the sitch again and she said call back tmrw night and ask for marilyn the overnight manager as she would be able to help best and i was told by yaz how it works is if there is no waitlist or hold on rooms i should be able to be accomodated and i said would I have to add another night and again i was assured as long as there was no wait I would be good. I called back sunday night and was unable to get any Manager let alone marilyn. Called back monday night to find marilyn is out, call back tuesday night spoke to deshaun relaying all this info and he says there is no wait / waitlist and i should be good to go. So imagine my surprise when i arrive at 2-230am and hear theres no rooms i tell this rep what i was told and then the manager who identifies themselves as Marilyn and i tell her all ive been told and she says they were suppose to tell you you have to add another night in this case tuesday night to secure the red eye and again i assured her that , that was not what i was told, and she said i can either add another night now or wait until 4am when she does her audit to see what rooms if any would be open, defeated and dismayed i agreed to add the night as i was fearful for what may have transpired if i as a black man in the middle of the night at a hotel in nyc had protested further. Marilyn was able to drop the price to $179. I then asked how does the daily $30 food x bev credit work and she said because of my mojito package that is negated but then said she would add it. When i checked out and saw my portfolio i saw i had not been credited! the room itself was fine tho but the service / communication and transparency awful! Not the way to treat a marriott gold elite member / a loyal customer/ specifically loyal to the moxy brand! 80% of my stays in the last two years and this one have been at a moxy , i called 1-800 and all theyve done was state they would Forward this to the property manager and gave me Some Points, for the prices they charge that seems like barely an...
