A memorable stay at any hotel usually requires a few combination of things: a friendly and welcoming staff, good location, clean and chic. Hotel 50 Bowery had them all! Initially we weren't expecting much from our one night stay here over this past weekend, but we came away very pleased with our stay here at Hotel 50 Bowery!
Service: Our check in was made easy and smooth. Tshiring welcomed us at the check-in counter and was very helpful. We inquired about the type of room we had booked and he was patient and helpful in going through a few options available at the time. His colleagues, Allen & Kim came over to help as well and each gave their invaluable feedbacks regarding the pros/cons of each available room--such as views, quietness, etc.. Because we had a young child, having a quiet room was a priority so they were able to make a suitable recommendation for us. This was probably the first time we had hotel staffs going over available options for us based on the room category we booked. Their service throughout our stay was top notch. After check-out, we forgot our boots left in the closet so I called and informed them. Allen offered if I wanted them shipped back to us but since we were still around, I told them we'll come by and he went up to the room and brought it down for us. I think it's these small detailed but personal touches that makes a hotels staff and their service memorable.
Cleanliness: The hotel was clean overall. Our room was small (NYC) as we had the 1 king bed but managable. It was clean which was important to us.
Location: Hotel 50 Bowery was situated in an ideal location if you want to reach many and different attractions for your stay in NYC. It's in Chinatown and a couple of blocks from Little Italy where you can have some of the most memorable food/restaurant experiences. it's also walkable to City Hall or the financial district of Wall Street if weather is nice, but convenient enough to hop on the bus or subway to take you there. Right at the foot of the Manhattan Bridge, you can take a walk across the bridge to Brooklyn or just walk up the bridge on the predestrian walking section and have some nice night views of the downtown buildings and skyscrapers. It's also walkable to the Brooklyn Bridge if you want to hit more bridges. The hotel's location also makes it easy for you to get to Midtown (Time Sq's, Broadway shows, Hells Kitchen, Empire State building, etc.) by just hoping onto the buses or into the subway stations closely located on Canal St., Bowery St, or Grand St.
Because of these pros and positive experience we have had at this hotel, we will...
Read moreI had the chance to stay at Hotel 50 Bowery for about 2 weeks (my longest hotel stay yet!), while on a trip to NYC in between apartment leases, and overall had an amazing time here.
Things got off to a great start when I arrived to the hotel in the late morning after a redeye flight, and the hotel already had a room ready for us. We got a room facing the city on the 15th floor, and while I wouldn't call it large, it suited us well for a long term stay with a great use of space. The standing rainfall shower felt amazing after a long flight (good water pressure from there as well as the sprayer), and the bathroom had a really chic and modern design and everything was immaculate. There was a large desk with ample space to work and spread our belongings, as well as good closet and shelf space that made living out of a suitcase for half a month more than tolerable. My only suggestion would be to have an additional towel hook so we don't need to place two towels on top of each other to dry.
The rest of the hotel was equally as enjoyable. I spent several days working from the lounge on the second floor and it was nice having coffee and fruit accessible there as well as strong wifi throughout the property (small thing, but I loved that the wifi stayed on the whole time and didn't need me to sign in every day - wish more hotels did that). There were daily activities such as tours and yoga (that unfortunately I didn't have the time to participate in), as well as a rooftop bar and basement club. Those would have lines out the door and pretty loud music on weekend nights, but it wasn't audible from the 15th floor and it was nice having a swanky place to get a drink at the end of the day. The staff was really friendly too and helpful on several occasions with requests like getting an HDMI cable and helping with sending out and receiving a package.
The location was pretty convenient in the center of Chinatown - about a 6-8 minute walk to B/D, R/W, and 6 subway lines and right next to a bus stop. There's a lot to of places to eat in the area, and it otherwise felt like I could get anywhere I had to go in Manhattan within 20 minutes.
Last thing I'll mention is Globalist recognition: while I couldn't have expected one of the few suites to be available for such a long time during peak occupancy, I was satisfied with the room, the generous free breakfast with accommodating hours (that would sometimes even get delivered up to the room), and early checkin/late checkout.
Overall I enjoyed my stay here and look forward to...
Read moreIf you're overwhelmed by the amount of hotel options in the city, rest assured you can stop your search. I truly look forward to a future visit! The room was gorgeous, clean, and spacious. The ammenities were really, truly wonderful. Complimentary coffee/tea/water in the 2nd floor lounge (until 4) with complimentary daily papers (NYT and China Daily). Also in the lounge was a microwave, silverware, cups, napkins, and plates for guests to bring in outside food/drink. This was so perfect for my late night leftovers. Other ammenities such as car service, walking tours, convenient concierge call or texting, nice robes, chocolates, housekeeping, the gym, the rooftop... I mean, I could go on. Most memorable of all, and I still think it months later, was the genuine hospitality that every single employee I came into contact with offered me.
I arrived in the morning and there was no issue for luggage storage (they gave me a ticket to hold onto and return with for retrieval). The concierge checked me in right then and said they would text me when my room was ready.
Some time after noon, they texted and said it was ready. I was shocked with the size and cleanliness of the room. I stayed in the corner room and was surrounded by floor to ceiling windows that faced both downtown and midtown. This was a happy surprise, because I didn't select any specific view when booking. The room rates are fair priced, so I was not expecting such simple, quiet luxury. The cool, concrete ceilings and warm, ambient lighting were a nice contrast to the chaos of the city. I've stayed in many hotels and this was truly unlike any other.
I felt safe in this location and really fell in love with Chinatown during my stay here. The early morning walks right beside elders setting up their storefronts of produce, fish, and whatnot was fun to experience. I highly recommend Uncle Lou's for dinner which is a couple blocks away. Sure some parts are a little worse for wear, but that's to be expected. It's a quick hop to Brooklyn if you like to walk, along with little Italy (which borders Chinatown), fidi, soho, LES, Tribeca, and so on. It is a hike to get uptown, so plan on public transport or some sort of car service for that! While I was here it rained pretty much every day and I still walked (because walking is cheapest, of course) up and down Manhattan about 80% of the time with my trusty coat and umbrella.
Anyway, I suppose that is enough of my love letter to...
