Soul food is the best! This restaurant is one of the best soul food in NYC!! Location: It is located in Gerard Ave, 5 min walk from Bronx Supreme Court which I had my jury duty! The restaurant is small with few seatings inside. There is a huge line and there is a great display of food inside! Service: The 2 ladies runs this restaurant! One in the cashier and one in the food selection. They don’t look stress despite of the long line. Food: I got the Lunch Special: one main course and 2 sides, the price depends on the meat. I got the OXTAIL: it was so good, and it has meat on it, unlike other oxtails that you eat on the other restaurants that is mostly bones of the oxtail, it sauce is good! MAC and CHEESE: probably the best mac and cheese I ate, does not look good but when you eat it, damn it is soo cheezy and good! GREENS: its good too, but lack of seasoning, I should have got the OKRA. Price rating: 6/10, not bad for amount of food and deliciousness you get! I bought a medium container of just the OXTAIL it cost $20 but damn it is a lot! OMG I will definitely go back here for soul food! TRY the OXTAIL and MAC and CHEESE!

Would(NOT) order from here again! Meal looks much better than the actual taste. I did not enjoy eating this meal at all. Compared to all the Jamaican restaurants that I have eaten at and tried, this restaurant ranks near the bottom. The jerk chicken was not spicy nor good (the jerk sauce made it bearable). The rice and peas was mushy and bland. I explicitly asked for oxtail gravy on my rice, and did not receive any. The Mac and cheese was dry and bland. The only thing that saved this meal was the sweet plantains and the plenty of water that I had to chase it down!

I love the food here. Everything is always well seasoned and very tasty. The quality of the food is always good. They are consistent and very clean which I like. Real home cooked food, generous portion sizes and affluent price. They are always filled with customers but the line moves. So, you don't have to wait long. The staff is very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant, its the best for really good west Indian cuisine.

2025 UPDATE 2nd review I'M MAD AT MYSELF. I WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION. THIS IS A 2ND REVIEW ON THIS PLACE. MY DAUGHTER ORDERED US SOME FOOD AND I WASN'T PLEASED AFTER EATING IT. I LOOKED UP THE PLACE SHE ORDERED FROM AND TO MY SURPRISE, I HAD THEIR FOOD BEFORE. 🤮 LET ME SHARE THIS EXPERIENCE... THE MAC AND CHEESE HAD A STINCH THAT REMINDS ME OF SEWAGE. NO, I'VE NEVER TASTED THE SEWER BEFORE BUT YOUR SENSE OF TASTE AND SMELL IS CONNECTED. I ALSO TASTED IT IN THEIR HOMADE, GINGER PINEAPPLE DRINK. TO MAKE THINGS WORST, SOMEONE MUST BE HANDLING THE FOOD WITH PERFUME ON BECAUSE THINGS WERE TASTING PERFUMY. I WISH I REALIZED THE ORDER WAS COMING FROM THIS PLACE. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A HARD NO! THEY NEED TO CHECK THEIR WATER SYSTEM. THE FOOD SHOULDN'T TASTE LIKE TOILET. ANOTHER $60 WASTED. I HAD TO TRASH IT. BTW THE JERK CHICKEN WAS THE SAME, JUST LESS SAUCE BUT TO SPICY.

1st review Never again! A $60 waste. My Sister says the food is probably better in the daytime. Freshly made may be best. I keep thinking it's gonna be different. I keep taking chances on these bronx restaurants, and I'm disappointed most of the time. I'm starting to believe these restaurants just throw food together just to get your money. Nobody cares about good food anymore. I had the jerk chicken. It was LOADED with sauce. Way too much sauce. I did not request any extra sauce. I couldn't even enjoy the chicken. It also was very spicy with a vinegary taste to it. Ugh! The mac and cheese was hot, but the cheese was stiff like it was cold. You would think that since it was hot, the cheese would melt. Just weird! Was it real cheese? The taste was eh. The yams were the only thing I enjoyed. A little too sweet but tolerable. I'm tired of spending money and receiving less than what I expect. These restaurants don't have any problems taking your hard earned money, but they have a problem giving you...

I’ve know about Flavas since they first opened. I was glad I had a new option for Jamaican food. At first the food was tasty and plentiful. Serving large portions of food is the hallmark of this restaurant. However as the years went buy it seemed the business has changed. One of my biggest complaints is the food is treated like slop! The food is sevred onto the plate like slop! The hot table is kept like slop! It appears they get a lot of business and are short staffed. I went late in the day. The food taste like its made for the masses. This is not your Jamaican Mama’s secret receipt. The food is not cook for style or fashion it’s cooked to serve large portions and to make money. One of my major complaints from the beginning is the food is too oily. Most selection are soaking in oil. The staff are civil never friendly. This is what you will find in at most Jamaican Restaurants. Don’t go in there looking for a smile or a hi how are you because that is not going to happen! The price is basically what everyone is charging during inflation. I don’t blame them for that. The rice should be keep in a rice steamer and not on the hot table. The hot table dries out the rice. I got curried chicken rice and peas with collard greens and mac & cheese for $17.95. The place needs a fresh coat of paint. Most business are finding it hard to stay a float. That is most likely part of the issue also. They had a lot of food late at night on a Friday.

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone that cares about customers service and good food. First they add a charge called covid-19 fee without disclosing this information. They also advertise with restaurant.com (this is the only reason we found this restaurant) but didn’t honor the coupon when presented claiming they canceled the service. We purchased a coupon which required a $50 minimum purchase and they refused to honor it or compensate us with a discount for the cost of the coupon. I feel like this is false advertisement and very poor customer service. They refuse to accommodate us in anyway to make our dining experience better. Didn’t offer anything. Just didn’t care. Let’s not forget the Covid-19 fee they included in the bill. So not only did I have to pay full price for my meal, I now also had to pay close to $20 on top of that. (Price of coupon and “Covid fee”) We still cash tipped our waitress as it’s not her fault, though she should have told us about the Covid-19 fee. The covid fee was a fee they claim could be added due to the loss of business because of covid. Why should I be forced pay for your loss of business?! The...
