I’ve been a customer for many years at this restaurant on any given day the food fluctuate my favorite food are lacking flavors, spice and the heart of what this restaurant was about. My last visit three weeks ago was very disappointing. Only thing I’ll probably stop here for is the sorrel when I’m in the Bronx. I purchase the chicken foot (no spice was not season properly), fried chicken (lack its true flavor), stew peas (horrible) chicken soup (salt and not its usual taste). Seems changes in chef as it’s lost its original taste. I’m loyal to a fault and have been coming back hoping they’ll get it but I’m tired as I did not eat some of the above it just sat in the refrigerator until it was time to throw out. I gave it a three because the staff and owner is nice.

I just want to add to my review I was desperate and went there against my judgement again. I got the curry chicken feet, jerk chicken pasta. The chicken feet nails was not removed I was so gross out I ended up throwing that food out I don’t think I can eat chicken feet for a while. My son did not eat the pasta I bought for him usually he would eat it but he let it stay in the refrigerator for a week before I threw it out. I dropped my ratings to two stars because for the most part Americans think this is a great food place but as a Jamaican I won’t ever visit this place for food again only for the drinks as my daughter like their passion fruit and I like the sorrel if the flavor...

Food is great. I live out of state and go out of my way to support this restaurant. My last visit there i walked in and no smile on the employees face and i said something about that and the response was you not smiling either. I in turn said to the lady im not running a business im here to support the business and if you have a frown on your face its not welcoming. Some menu items had no prices next to them and asking seem like it was bothersome. Not all remodeling is an upgrade (miss the old place). I ordered my food and went to pay and question my receipt immediately after and was told there is extra charge for using a credit card. Mind you i had cash on me so if that was communicated to me prior to using I would obliged and pay with cash. A sign should be posted stating extra charge if u use a credit card and cashier should state that to credit card customers also. I want to support minorities establishment but its hard when customer is not there priorities. We have to train our frontline staff to smile more and be more courteous. At the end of the day this will drive more business through your doors and if i must say...

I haven’t been to Gold Star in about 2 years but I had a large oxtail with yellow rice two days ago and the following must be noted: Way too sweet, I felt like I was eating bbq chicken. After a few spoonfuls I had to purposefully block out the sweetness :/ What happened to serving meals with vegetable and plantains? Cabbage and plantain is cheap so there should be no reason to not add to it an order automatically to complete the meal. It’s simply not Jamaican takeout without those two side orders!! (Yes, mi is a yardie) The cost. I understand oxtails are expensive but at least add a tin of broad bean to help stretch the meat. There’s no reason why I have to dig up the plate of food to find meat, that just isn’t right… I like to see how my food is shared. A plus of Jamaican restaurants is that you can see the food in front of you so you can make your adjustments to suit your personal tastes. Get more serving shelves so ppl can see the food.

I will return because I like the interior renovations and I have had quality food in the past, however, the food and service must be kept at a high standard. Anyways, big...

Before I speak on the food, THE VIBE WAS EVERYTHING. The DJ was serving great tracks and really getting us in the mood for some dancing. Now, there wasn't any dancing happening but it's not because the music wasn't fire! DJ Dougie really did his thing here. Now the food, the selection seemed endless!! We ended up getting white rice, rice and peas, curry goat, oxtails, sweet and sour chicken, cabbage, mac and cheese, plantains, and one of each drink they serve. Everything. Was. Delicious. The serving sizes were generous. It fed us yesterday and today! The goat and oxtails were tender and so flavorful. The lemonade and the fruit punch had a twist, with some ginger. But the pink drink was sweet and tangy. 10/10 would recommend. The seating options are limited, but If you are able to snag on and enjoy the music with the food, it's all worth it!!

Gold Star truly offers the best Jamaican food in New York! Every dish I tried was bursting with authentic flavors that took me right back to the island. The jerk chicken was seasoned to perfection, with the right blend of spice and smokiness that defines a true Jamaican jerk. The curry chicken was tender and full of rich, complex flavors, and the stews were hearty and comforting. You can taste the love and tradition in every bite, and it’s clear that quality ingredients and skilled preparation are at the heart of everything they serve. If you're looking for genuine Jamaican cuisine, Gold Star is the spot. Highly recommend trying everything on the menu; you won’t be disappointed!

A couple of years ago, I would visit here to get my oxtail fix, back then it was about 12 dollars or so for medium, but the portion was good and consistent. I went there yesterday paid almost 15 dollars for a medium oxtail and I was given 3 regular pieces and 2 microscopic pieces, with a whole bunch of gravy that I thought was meat. It also wasn’t as good, as I remember. The staff are also very rude, but I guess this happens at MOST Jamaican food establishments. The rice and peas taste like it was made with just WATER, RICE AND PEAS! Food price go up and quality goes down, so does customer service! This is all so interesting 🤔
