Gourmet Sweets & Restaurant — Restaurant in New York

The food was fine; however, if booking for an event...they are absolutely terrible. We had an event booked for 5:00 pm and were told that we could come in 2 hours in advance to set up. We got there around 3:45 and saw to our horror the party hall full of people, apparently there was another event happening. So we went inside and inquired. We spoke to Mr. Hassan, who we made the booking with, he said the event will end at 5:00 and when I said but we had booked for 5 and need to set up for our event, he accused me of lying and saying that we booked for 7:00 after a little back and forth, I showed him the receipt on which he, himself had written down the time, once he saw that, he didn't have much to say and got flustered. He went away for a few minutes and came back saying there's nothing he can do, the event ends at 5:00 and we'll just have to wait. Mind you, we were traveling from Staten Island and had two very young babies with us, with no where else to go, we waited in the restaurant part of Gourmet Sweets. Finally, we were told we could start setting up...the people from prior party were still there and eating...we had no choice but to intrude. A couple of employees helped us with setting up including a 15 year old boy, which was very helpful. As this was an all girl's event, we had requested all male employees to refrain from entering to respect those who observe the hijab. However, they just came in and out as they pleased which was extremely disrespectful. The bathroom was not clean and smelled horrible. Many of our guests complained to the only female staff there, who just ignored the matter. We were told to notify them a half an hour in advance to serve food. I approached this female staff at 7:30 and told her we would like for the food to be served at 8:00. When come 8:00, there was no food in sight, I approached her and asked, where's the food? She went away and came back saying they will start setting up and it will be ready by 8:30 (by now I wanted to pull my hair out...the lack of service was driving me crazy), we had women who had left their children home and diabetic guests who needed to eat. Now it was 8:30...no food in sight, I approached her again and she assured me it will be ready soon. There was only that one 15 year old boy working hard to set up the food, I asked her to help him in order to speed up the process and she refused saying that is not her part of the job. Finally around 8:50ish we could eat...everyone was super hungry by now. Now it was time to pay, employees were approaching us asking us to be discreet when giving tip...ugh, wait a minute! Is that a smart way of asking for tip? and why do we need to be discreet? Do they want it all for themselves and not have to share? HOW GREEDY!!!! We were charged a full amount, even though an item was missing from the menu and the whole timing fiasco at the beginning. We had to remind them of these for them to take off the appropriate amount, even that was a mission. Over all, poor management and coordination of events, poor service, poor guest relations, greedy and lazy female staff member, dirty bathroom, mean/ill mannered employee named Hassan, and a very overworked 15 year old....

It take me few moths to write this rivew I visit this restaurant alot of time food is very and tasty and spicy 😋 I go so many time and buy food and dinner lunch breakfast

3 star because guys food is so good on my fist time to buy the food from this place my friend suggested me to buy kabab from there what a pathetic unprofessional service level if I have any -negtive start I can give to there service they take order and talk to each other like a street people take i stay there and observe alot of people who come to buy the food coustmer service level is compared to food is all the way is - 0 negative When u enter tell them that's I am calling to order your phones are out of order not picking up any single call when I ask they said we are busy what seriously Any way I go back again and again and after my first experience food and yes there food is good and tasty but service level need to be improved I am not sure it's owner or manager he need to give respect to employees or if any issues resolved talk with employees on some office not yelling and talk cheep way behind the counter that why no coustmer service no ethics Again food is really good and few things are spicy so taste it before you buy or order It'd traditional Pakistani...

The quality of food of this place has definitely dropped down drastically to reasons unknown. They use to operate 24 hours that stopped.on more than one occasion their Atta "dough" finished randomly. Someone explain to me how do you run a Pakistani restaurant without Atta, it just baffles me . They have zero customer service and I mean zero. They take orders and serve food like zombies. If you speak English to them they look at you funny or the just grab a rag and stare at you until the zombie worker that does speak English takes your order. I would highly recommend check your order for no funny business. More than once they got my order wrong. If they don't have the item they replace it, instead of calling back and informing they don't have the item they replaced it with something else. You will ask always meet that guy that just stands behind the counter and stares at you like a deer in headlights. He won't greet you or take your order just stare. Go at...
