Great Wall — Restaurant in New York

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food at this well-known Manhattan institution.

As the many reviews on here tell you, the ambience is absolutely spectacular. The plush, red booths and the gorgeous artwork, the chandeliers and well-dressed staff. You feel like you're in an elegant Russian parlor in the 1920s.

I made a reservation and was told to wait at the bar for a few minutes. A number of large parties were seated and I gave the staff the benefit of the doubt. Why I waited half an hour before speaking up, I can't say, but when I did they ushered me to my table for 1 -- which was waiting for me. Now, I should preface this by saying that my original reservation was for 2, and I changed it upon arrival to 1. Even so, 30 minutes is too long to wait, when my table was there the whole time.

My meal began with a pricey $16 Rasputin -- a sweet, nutty drink consisting of Frangelico and Russian Vodka.

Hey I give 3 stars because the lady was nice on the phone and also accepted my Zelle payment BUT that crab Rangoon gotta go! Definitely doesn’t taste like every other ordinary crab Rangoon. She text me her Zelle, so I sent her pic and made a complaint. Let’s see if she resolves my issue. If she decides to send my $ back I will update with more stars but for now not satisfied.

Update! She mention she’ll give me store credit. When I asked her for a break down of order she said check menu. I found her or his behavior a little inpatient. I told her to keep the credit, never ordering again and rating one star. Now he/she offering money back! 🤦‍♀️ why couldn’t it be that simple once I sent him or her the pic of crab Rangoon and told him or her that I didn’t like it. Great Wall has some of the best American-Chinese food in the South Bronx. All their dishes are good from the General Tso Chicken, Orange Chicken, Fried rice, egg rolls, fried wings, whatever it is, it is good. All the food is cooked out in the open so there are no surprises as to what is being added or what is being used. They respect any and all food allergies, you just have to inform them as to what you are allergic too. Their lunch specials are super affordable and come with a free drink. They also offer brown rice options for any of their rice dishes if you are interested in a healthier option. The service is always quick whether you are ordering to dine in or for takeout. However, the atmosphere is your basic Chinese food spot in NYC. Meaning they have the typical uncomfortable wood booths for you to dine in.
