My wife and I stayed here on a Thursday night for a short trip of some business/mostly leisure. There is a lot to like about this hotel: nice big tv with good cable or satellite system in front of a firm, comfortable queen bed, EXcellent climate control system for the room, good internet service, wood floors, cold mini fridge, closet and furniture to put your things and hot shower. We had two concerns with the bathroom: 1. no place to set your soap or shampoo in the shower - there needs to be at least a soap dish attached to the wall, 2. the sink is very small and tucked up under the mirror/medicine cabinet - you cannot hold your head over the sink. To brush your teeth, wet shave, or wash your face, you are better off doing it while showering. Take a thing to cover your hair if you don't want to wet your hair. The sink itself is fine, but they should have placed it further from the wall with a surrounding countertop of some sort. Also, we stayed in early spring and the air was rather stale - not unusual after being cooped up for the winter - but you cannot open windows yourself. I expect the place will be more ventilated as the weather gets warmer. Otherwise, we had a pretty quiet, restful stay. The immediate vicinity of the hotel is quiet, and it is not far from many clothing stores and restaurants, even a hispanic grocery store. The area is mixed and not pristine, but my wife and I had no problem, 1-2 hours after dusk, walking three short blocks to/from the subway stop at 149th st and 3rd av. We kept our suv parked in the super secure lot in back of the hotel, but I would not do that again with a large vehicle, as the driveway is very tight (claustrophobic, even) and difficult to maneuver, getting into and out of the back area. Overall, The Rose is a good value and convenient to the city via subway. The staff were very friendly and...

For one, they claim this is a non smoking hotel, yet once I walk in, it smells like cigarettes and weed. This is because the staff of the hotel placed covers around both the smoke detectors and the water sprinkler which basically encourages smoking. So my room smelt like nothing but straight smoke, both cigarettes and weed. This is completely unprofessional from a hotel that claims to be nonsmoking or have non smoking rooms. I can tell you with my covered smoke detector and smoke smelling room, they do not care. The room itself is very nice, small, but very well decorative and attractive. It’s just the smell was absolutely awful. Another thing, the room had dirt everywhere, and was clearly not cleaned. People’s belongings from past stays were in cabinets, there was dirt and hair on the bed, table, bathroom, floor, sink, all had dirt or stains or both. There was also no pillow cases on our pillows, which also had hair and dirt on them. Back to the smell because it was just so bad, I had to go to the 99 cent store to get supplies to clean the room because it was just so dirty, and I also bought 2 whole cans of air freshener which I emptied completely, and even after that the smell was not much better. Overall, if you are a smoker, and don’t mind the smell, by all means you would love it here, if you are a dirty person, you would love it here, but if your not any of these, please find somewhere...
Read moreThe area is not the nicest, but it is a short walk to the subway if you are traveling into the city. We stayed for a few nights and there was a constant lingering smell of smoke in our room. It was faint enough that we kinda grew used to it, but it was definitely noticeable. Our keycard did not work after the first night and had to be let into our room by the front desk. The next night the same thing happened and the new person behind the desk told us the keys reset every day which we were not told when checking in. While checking in I overheard other guests asking for a “good room” because the last time they were here the AC did not work. Any time another guest closes a door in the building you can hear it slam (at least on the first floor room we stayed in) and it happens pretty frequently even at night. The room itself was a long narrow space with a queen sized bed that almost touched either side of the room. There was a refrigerator but no microwave. The bathroom has a small standing shower that was a little uncomfortable to use as every time I spun around, I would bump the water handle and change the temp. The sink in the bathroom is barely usable for anything other than washing hands because of its size and location under the medicine cabinet. Overall, if you are looking for something cheap to stay in for a couple of days, it’s not the worst, but don’t...
