This bakery has been baking bread for so long people have grownup rating there black white cookies with all there other delicious baked goods for over 50 years. The bakery was closed for awhile but was reopened with new owners and kept the old tradition going as good as he could. The only setback sometimes is the service is not as friendly as we remember but the women before was there for years and really loved talking to people. Not that the people now are unfriendly but if you were a regular customer the women would know your name. The traditional bakery this is not this place bakes cookies, cakes that will blow your socks off.

I came here for the first time yesterday due to all the rave reviews I read on Facebook. This place is an institution in Bay Ridge and justifiably so. Everything looks fresh and delicious. I opted to get some donuts and cannolis, which were both very good. I want to come back in the future to get their bread (I heard the soda bread is great), black and white cookie (that they are famous for) and the danishes. The lady behind the counter was so warm and friendly. But, be forewarned. This place is cash only and prices are very reasonable.

The world’s best semolina bread, pleasant service… What more could you ask for? The original il Fornaretto is still on 17th Ave. and the breads here are extremely comparable. I read some bad reviews, and I would say don’t listen to them they sound like grumps who don’t like change as this space used to be a different type of bakery.

Once again and for the very last time, I have purchased quite a few bakery items that I specifically asked if they were fresh items and told to my face yes they are made fresh only to find out once I get home that they are anything but fresh , once a lemon rolled cake came home with green mold , I put it in freezer so I could bring it back green mold and all.... today I purchased layer cake that woman swore was fresh , cupcakes and one donut and once again the three items were stale the chocolate layer cake I could not even cut and now when I called to let them know I was told they just put the fresh layer cakes out and it is 6;30 pm I can’t believe a fresh bakery has the nerve to sell full priced items that are stale and I could go to the shoprite for that if I wanted , I can’t believe I’m the only customer who has bought from them and been disappointed they should stick to their breads and only sell those and they should stop lying about the cakes being fresh when they clearly are not, if I wasn’t so far from the bakery I would bring it back so they can eat it but they need a gallon of milk to wash it down, absolutely disgusted I even have to write this with everything else going on in the world but...

Without a doubt the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered. This bakery is under new ownership. It’s just a matter of time before it closes due to its lack of standards and professional ethics . I ordered four loaves of seeded Italian bread for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.When I arrived at my destinations and cut into the bread, I realized it was made with semolina wheat. I’ve been ordering this bread since I moved into Bayridge in 2000. This is the first time it was ever made with semolina wheat. It had a totally different taste, and totally different texture. I called to bakery to I question why I was sold something I didn’t order. I was told they didn’t make semolina twist bread on Christmas Eve. Basically calling me a liar. I’ve had issues with this new management in the past. Let’s just say Customer Sevice is not their strong suit. Over the past 20 years I’ve spent hundreds if not, thousands of dollars in this bakery along with my extended family. I guess it goes without saying that I will never spend another dime in this place. What a shame. This was such a great bakery in it’s day …unfortunately those days...

I took a chance once and went to Leske's to see if they had croissants. My regular place (Jean Danet) had run out of them for the day and I had a real craving for them. I figured that it would not hurt to see if Leske's had them and they are located just half a block away. They only have one person behind the counter and she was multitasking, so I had to wait to get her attention. They had two croissants left in the glass display case. They didn't look as nice or big as the ones from my regular place but decided to take them. They cost the same as the ones from Jean Danet. They were not as tasty either but they fulfilled a need. Leske's seems to concentrate mostly on supplying bread to stores and supermarkets. Everytime I go by I see racks loaded with bread that's being cooled off. I also see bread trucks parked outside this bakery being loaded constantly. They don't seem to concentrate as much on the retail sales from their location, as they make most of their money as a...
