Island Crave — Restaurant in New York

Unfortunately I have to edit my review for the most recent business catering a few weeks ago. I was so happy to support a local business with a corporate business catering. I contacted the manager candy the day before for a 20 person lunch across the street in Harlem hospital. We agreed to a what the menu would be and cost and time. I realize I didn't confirm delivery and text first thing in the morning to make sure it was going to be delivered. After calling and texting a few times, I still got No response, I didn't get to them till 30 min before the lunch was to be delivered. She told me"we don't deliver" had I known that when I reached out at 9am, I could've came early and picked up the food myself. That's my fault for not confirming delivery, I get there at 12:30, order not finished and not completed. I had to put the order in my car, that alone took a long time as she was still preparing some of the food. I end up an entire hour late for my business lunch and was extremely upset. She did apologize but I don't have time to deliver food myself when they are plenty of restaurants that would've delivered, provided serving utensils as well as drinks. The food is good but for business catering, I won't be using them again.

As a Jamaican, I find it embarrassing that this restaurant is serving food under the banner of Jamaican cuisine. The fried chicken was completely dry — clearly sitting out for hours — and had no flavor or freshness. The soup was even worse: calling a pot of broth with a handful of shrimp “seafood soup” is misleading and insulting. The flavor was off, unbalanced, and simply disgusting.

This is not how Jamaican food should ever be represented. Our cuisine is rich, bold, and full of life — but what was served here was the opposite. I would never recommend this place to anyone, and I truly hope they reconsider how they prepare and serve dishes if they plan to represent the...

this place NEVER misses! i have a sensitive stomach and am often super cautious of trying new restaurants. but i’ve visited island crave 3 times now, and this restaurant has ALWAYS delivered extremely high quality food that is super delicious and so savory. get the chicken pasta, jerk chicken, oxtail, red pea soup (on thursdays), or literally anything - i promise you won’t regret it!

also, the staff is a dream. they treat everyone with so much love, care, and respect right when you walk in the door. impeccable establishment and i feel so lucky to live close enough to visit...
