Have dietary restrictions? Don’t come here. Get ready for the staff to laugh at you and act unprofessionally. I went inside and asked if they had a simple Sicilian pizza with just tomato sauce and no cheese. The server at the counter said they didn’t have any non dairy options so I asked for garlic knots instead. As the server was heating the garlic knots, another coworker asked what happened, and in Spanish the sever told him I asked if they had options without cheese. This guy then laughs out loud. I told the server in Spanish to forget my order, that I overheard their conversation and thought it’s not right to laugh at a customer just for asking a simple question. I said they have no idea why I asked, I could be lactose intolerant, vegan, whatever.
Customers are allowed to ask about ingredients and share dietary restrictions at a FOOD business.
Reasons why someone would ask if something has dairy and/or meat:
they are lactose intolerant, religious reasons (Muslim and can’t eat pork, Jewish and having kosher ingredients), they are vegan or vegetarian, they have food allergies, they have acne and are avoiding dairy, weight loss goals. and any other reason that’s their business only.
Is it that laughable to ask for a non-dairy option at a NYC Italian pizzeria? No.
Many traditional Italian dishes have vegan options (tomato pasta, pizza marinara, farinata, salad with cheese withheld, polenta, the list goes on). Other pizza spots like Rosa’s Pizza carry pizza marinara and other options— and have staff that are professional and won’t laugh at you.
This business is making a mistake and missing out on a whole wide diversity of customers. Many pizza spots have vegan and vegetarian options (they substitute with vegan cheese or simply have a slice with just marinara.) I won’t be spending my money here or bringing friends or family here. As someone who lives in the neighborhood, I’m insulted and disgusted by their rude and outright mean service.
Everyone has a right to think what they want and have an opinion.. In a place of business: you treat customers from all walks of life with respect, no matter what. I was close to half those men’s age and have more emotional maturity and common sense on how to...
Read moreSUCKS!!! Do not waste your hard-earned money here! I’m visiting from VA, and been eating NY pizza since I was a kid (my moms from here) and I am so disappointed I just spent $130 on meal that was supposed to feed my family. More than HALF of it they can’t even eat. Complete waste of $130- still waiting on someoneee to contact me about fixing this. We’re staying at a hotel so there’s no condiments here to potentially save this food. Our pizza was tastelesssss and absolutely no type of seasoning was used at all! No garlic, no salt and pepper…Like what?! I’ve had 100 pizzas from NY and this is the worst pizza I’ve honestly ever eaten. Ever. From anywhere!! I could have saved $100 and gone to Pizza Hut. Even no salt on the fries?! They were gross and cold. Everything else was hot at least, but almost inedible. We’re not eating this. They ALSO didn’t tell me there is a $5 additional charge for using a credit card- so why did I bother tip if you told me a total that wasn’t even accurate??? I was shocked to see the total on the receipt they had me sign, which was different from the price she told me on the phone. Never mentioning the $5 extra charge? I didn’t want to do the most to call the restaurant and ask for a new receipt to fix the total or whatever, but I definitely called after I saw the food when I came back up to the room. Nothing was solved.
They forgot my ranch, I didn’t get a copy of my receipt, they didn’t give us any red pepper or cheese to put on the pizza to save it from being dreadfully tasteless, and a $25 calamari was literally some frozen calamari thrown into a bath of marinara sauce?! For 25 DOLLARS like whatttt?! INSANITY. The saladdd was the most edible thing we ordered- that’s crazy. I’m pissed and I...
Read moreI moved a few years ago and happened to be in the neighborhood this past weekend I decided to have Joeys Pizza since its been a childhood favorite and I wanted my children to experience New York Pizza. Upon receiving our food and sitting down to eat I was immediately distracted by an older white man (not sure if he's the owner) yelling at his employees for absolutely no reason. It started with a gentlemen that was sitting at a side table taking orders, the older man was literally cursing him out and the guy just sat there quietly. Next he went to one of the servers behind the counter and started picking on him too , they both seemed to be hispanic and he only picked on them (2) wouldn't be surprised if he's racist. Honestly it was very distasteful to see this not only for myself but for my children, I couldn't believe he was doing this out in the open very unprofessional and the embarrassment these men must've felt , it made me lose my appetite. It's sad to see a manager treat their employees that way and just shows his true colors. I will never give them...
