Kabu Bar Lounge — Restaurant in New York

I'm Bolivian and Kabu has been my go-to place for saltenas for years. Although they seem to be shrinking in size every few months, their saltenas are still the tastiest in the neighborhood.

If I were rating only their saltenas, they would still get 5 stars. However, the past few visits have been very discouraging and I can't help but have a sour taste for the establishment in general. Enough to make me never want to return.

The staff was very dismissive. It took about 15 minutes to get seated eventhough a few tables were available and all they had to do was clean them. My boyfriend and I ended up just sitting down at a table with trash on it. It then took us about another 15 minutes to get anyone to take our order and the place wasn't very busy! (It was 4pm).

We saw folks having drinks so we asked for a rum and coke but the waiter told us it would take a while because the bar is busy and offered no alternative. I had to ask if it was possible to just open two beers for us. He rolled his eyes and went off to grab them.

When we finally ordered and got our food, we found the taste completely changed and underwhelming. Given the whole experience, we just wanted to leave as soon as possible! Luckily the check actually came quickly.

We thought we'd seen the worst but then realized they mainly added a 15% too to the total on the check (see pic).

I had forgotten they only take cash so my boyfriend had used their ATM to take out $40 already, estimating a decent tip regardless of the service. But once we saw they were forcing us to leave that tip anyway, we were completely turned off. This method is very forceful and desperate.

I am not spending any money at this place again unless I'm absolutely forced to get saltenas to...

Donde empesar. Este Lugar va de mal en Peor. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Where do i begin? This place has gone from bad to worse! My Family and I have been going there since i was a kid! Look at the reviews of how they used to be! We live very far and drove from Long Island after wanting to have some Salteñas and ordered almost $140 worth. Keep in mind they’re selling them for like $3! Look at the size of Salteñas they gave us!? Another man said it recently who reviewed them. It’s an absolute ripoff! They’ve shrunk them to Literally Bite Size proportions what once used to be true to size for them. It literally is Robbery. Not to mention there is now hardly any meat inside mostly the juice. Avoid this my family also said last time they went to dine in, they brought the Food absolutely terrible and tasteless. What a shame about what once used to be a Pretty Good Bolivian restaurant. I will be calling tomorrow to have a word with them about these Salteñas. To make matters even worse! We called the day prior to order them! There are tons of places to go to for night life on Northern in this particular area. The disturbing thing about this location in particular. They will nickel and dime you. Anything they can add a charge to trust me they will. Over the years their staff has gotten worse, their service worse and food as you can imagine getting worse.
