MalaBarnyc — Restaurant in New York

I was here two weeks ago and had a unpleasant experience! Please avoid this place unless your looking to be scammed and disappointed.

Our server Jessica was pretty but clueless! I ordered a passion fruit mojito and was given the incorrect drink so I sent it back she gives me an attitude but changes it. (Drink was decent)

This place claims to be a "restaurant" but their menu is small. Basically bar food which I normally wouldn't mind.

So I ordered a steak sandwich with NO CHEESE as I am lactose intolerant. I repeated this multiple times to her and she verbally confirmed she understood my order.

When my order comes back my sandwich has cheese! Right away I notice and don't take it from her because I can clearly see the cheese which I repeatedly said I didn't want.

I told her I said no cheese she claims she told the chef and the sandwiches are pre-made and can't be made with out cheese.

At this moment I am upset as to why she failed to mention this when the order was placed. I told her to take it back because I was unhappy and I was not paying for an incorrect order that can't be fixed. She said she couldn't take it off the bill.

At this point I was very upset so I asked to speak to the manager because she was not bright or helpful. Horrible Customer Service!

She then proceeds to tell me no one is there to help me. Mind you, I had the manager or owner sitting next to me 2 mins ago.

The chef eventually came out and was very polite. He tells me Jessica didn't tell him to make the sandwich without cheese, (figures).

He offered to make me something different without cheese but I was just upset and did not want to be there any longer. Eventually the manager/owner that "wasn't there" came to hear me out and removed the sandwich off the bill!

Horrible...

I visited this place to celebrate my sister's birthday. As soon as we walked in we were met with an attitude and disregard by the staff and the owner. we were asked to change our seats because we were occupying a larger table even though there were no other people who could've taken the spot. we ordered the drinks, they took a long time to bring them back due to change of staff. Everyone was very rude and dismissive. It was about midnight when we decided to get up and dance to the music, even though we are not of Spanish decent, we enjoy the music and culture. we wanted to have fun and dance the night out! the owner stopped us and told us that they had to mop the floor at midnight. I went to Malabar for the first time last night with my twin brother & friends!!! The place had a fantastic atmosphere & the music was great, not to mention the service was perfect and the girls and crowd were absolutely gorgeous-WOW!!! Linda the owner was the most gracious host ever and welcomed us-made us feel at home. The food looks absolutely delicious also-will have to try it on my next visit.
