Food was great. Workers were super nice. Chicken tasted really good, similar to Halal Guys flavor profile but 10 times better. Fresh falafel was fantastic, amazing inside texture, nice exterior crunch. I loved how fresh the salad was on the side, juicy tomatoes, nice onions. Hot sauce is super spicy, so be careful. If you order the falafel to go, I would suggest getting the white sauce on the side because the falafel doesn't stay crunchy for too long if it's sauced up, and that crunch makes it 100 times better. I would also recommend getting extra white sauce in general because the the platters are somewhat dry by themselves.
My only gripe was that I got the food as soon as I ordered, which was fine for the falafel, but for the chicken it meant that it was sitting cooked on the grill and may have been cooked for too long. But, even though the chicken was a little overcooked, it was still one of the best halal carts I've been to in the city. I need to try the chicken shawarma next time.
Also it's funny how this guy has great reviews except for a bunch of random 1 star reviews from weirdos from Saudi Arabia who have never been to the US. Ignore those.
Edit: Learned the reason why he got all those 1 star reviews. The owner is actually the GOAT. I'm coming back...
Read moreI got a falafel sandwich today from King of Falafel, a place I've been going to for years. They have two new guys working there. One of them is extremely unfriendly and can't seem to smile, and the other one—the one who made my sandwich—asked me if I wanted it spicy. I said, "No, just tahini and white sauce." Then, a minute later, he asked me the same question again.
The quality has definitely slipped. The pitas used to come with a nice amount of pickled vegetables, lettuce, and tomato. Today, my pita had no tomatoes and just one piece of pickled beet. They aren't even assembling it right anymore—it was just a bunch of dry falafel at the bottom of the pita and a clump of lettuce at the top.
It's a real shame, because these pitas used to be made with love.
This used to be my go-to spot for falafel in Midtown, but this is the second time within a week that I've been disappointed. I don't think I'll be going back. My coworker said...
Read moreThe rumors were true. You get a falafel while you wait on line. It was really good. Big pieces, as the reviewer says below, the falafel was very crunchy. I also like how it was cylindrical and not round balls. This was Baes recommendation after an afternoon walking in Central Park watching the sun go down. I got the chicken Sharma sandwhich. Just a little spicey and my head is sweaming, eyes tearing, nose running. What a cleansing. No where to sit. The stone benches have fences around them. Pro tip, head across the street for a table in the indoor public space. Wow. That was really good. Stomach full. No more food for me tonight. I feel satisfied. Staff was really friendly. I will...
