This is the most recommendable hotel I have ever stayed with. The small staff works tirelessly with pride to provide you with everything you need to enjoy your stay in the city. After one week with the Hotel Elysee, I realized that it is one of the best kept secrets in Manhattan.
The second story club room which offers up close views of the street below is one of those rare places that you can sit back and relax and watch the craziness below. If you go in the afternoon, the club room will be filled with conversation, laughter, and the clinging of wine glasses. If you are lucky, someone might even sit behind the piano and play a few songs for everyone. In the morning, the club room is full of sleepy travelers filling up on coffee and pastries.
The bell-staff seemed to be a very tight knit group. Every other day I would see the same faces behind the desk which granted a comfortable "at home" feeling when I would arrive back at the hotel.
Upon arrival, my new wife and I found that the Hotel Elysee had taken extra measures to make sure we had an extraordinary honeymoon. We were so impressed by the old-fashioned generosity and kindness shown to us every day of our stay. Even on the last day, the bellman out front took the initiative of loading our belongings into the town car that was to take us to the airport even though we were still 10 minutes away stuck in traffic trying to get back.
If you are a person passing through on business who just wants to stay in any hotel, doesn't want to be cared for by a personable staff, and doesn't want to get to know and share stories with your hotel-mates in the club room, then stay somewhere else! HOWEVER:
If you are someone who appreciates the little things, you will not find a hotel that pays attention to detail like the Hotel Elysee. If you are looking to have a memorable stay at a novel hotel, stay at the Hotel Elysee. They take pride in what they do and they will do everything they can to care for you. I am confident that you will be...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite hotels in New York yet this visit was not a good one. Note: Tell this hotel ALL your preferences. Don’t just check boxes. I was upgraded! Yet my upgrade was to a king bed. I am 5’1” tall. I had to get out of bed to check my phone as the only outlets were on the other side of the bed away from the bathroom.||I asked for the room I had requested after hearing I had to wait an hour for my upgrade to be ready. The desk clerk selected a room right next to the elevator at the back of the building. When I rejected it the desk clerk said I should have been explicit on my preferences when I reserved. ||The upgrade is two doors from the elevator. This is a boutique hotel in a group (The Library Collection) where I have stayed for over twenty years a couple of times a year. The desk clerk, AJ, must have been really tired from checking in quite a few couples while I waited over 45 minutes for my “upgrade”. When I again requested a room he informed me he was not required to give me a room before 3pm. It was 2:55 at this point. He told me to sit down and he would let me know when my upgrade was ready. The upgrade turned out to be two doors (10’) from the elevator at the back of the building with no natural light and the “upgrade” was to a king bed for a single person 5’1” tall. ||Hotels! If you are going to offer an unexpected upgrade to a loyal customer of 20 years ASK what they consider an upgrade. My 5’10” friend got a Queen Deluxe with a sitting area at the front of the hotel. We had both asked for Queen Deluxe. It was her first visit so I am happy for her that she got the nicer room as I had selected the hotel. ||Also be aware they add a temporary charge for $50 PER NIGHT...
Read moreThis is an old school New York hotel with an excellent location, outstanding service, classic vibe with rooms, that, while a little dated compared to hotels that aren't almost 100 years old, still deliver a comfortable stay and a good value for the area.
From the doorman to the front desk to the elevators with tapestry cushioned walls to the narrow halls, there's a distinctly old school give in this classic. The rooms are small but decently appointed in an old fashioned way. Giant closet, tiny TV. Not many plugs, about a clock radio (does anyone under 70 need a radio taking up a plug in a hotel room in 2024? Small bathroom, big tub and shower with good pressure and lots of hot water. The AC kept the room chilly on a super hot and humid day, but the covers were super warm to stay under if that's what you needed.
The refrigerator didn't work, but you could get an ice bucket. If you called down, they'll bring it up to you and change it out with the one you have in the room. Again, first class service.
You pay a $25 per person "club fee" to be able to access a nice library room on the second floor with lots of tables, and snacks and drinks at your disposal that you can just take away (whatever you want). There is a continental breakfast in the morning as well, with different types of coffee, juices fruit, Clif bars, Boston cream, pastry, muffins, etc. no waffles or other buffet type items that you might see in different hotels, but you certainly have the opportunity to fill up.
Overall, the hotel is an experience unto itself. Unique. Fun. Old school. Classy. Excellent service and traditional amenities in an awesome location for a good price. I would stay again...
