My family and I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Manhattan/ midtown east (mold alert). The pros of this place are that it is very conveniently located near subway stations, is across the street from Ess a bagel, next door to a Duane Reade pharmacy (where we bought a case of water for the week for $4) and Amazon Go Store, and within relatively ā€œshortā€ walking distance to Grand Central Station, MoMa, Rockefeller Plaza, and the Chrysler Building. Prepare for significant walking to Times Square, Empire State Building, Broadway Theaters, Central Park. The hospitality of the hotel was just ok. Mimi was our favorite and was always helpful. Lobby was nothing special at all and hardly any place to sit. Elevators are super fast, daily room service available, very quiet. We also felt safe here. Cons of this place are that the rooms need updating. The furniture was a bit beat up, the bathrooms are dim lighted (only two dim lited lights on the mirror, none on ceiling), rusty shower drains that drained slowly (water puddled while showering), even though we set thermostat at 70 it never got below 72 (stayed at 76-74 during the day) and the first room we stayed in the first night (#1417) had mold in the AC vents by the window (see photo), the mini fridge had a strong repugnant odor, and the mattress on pull out couch had many stains on it. The blanket in the blanket kit for the pull out bed had food on it. Thank goodness for Mimi at the front desk for immediately offering to change our room which ended up having a better view that included the Chrysler Building. Both rooms we stayed in had a smell like urine but I think that might be their room deodorizer/cleaning spray? There were only two USB ports in the 2nd room we stayed in and not many unused outlets which may not be a problem for some but traveling with 2 teens, USB and outlet space is a precious commodity lol! I would definitely bring a USB extension bar if you have a lot of stuff to charge at night. There is not a concierge here which may be problematic if you are visiting the city for the first time. We did not visit the 12th floor which is where the amenities are located.

The rooms are a bit dated, but what you lose in comfort (mattress was not as fluffy as other Marriott beds, towels were hard šŸ˜‚, and the bedding was on the ā€˜light’ side—sized tween?), you get back twofold in convenience of location. I’m not a big woman, and laying flat on my back in the bathtub left my bits out in the cold 🤧. Aside from this, I highly recommend for business trips, but not for vacationing šŸ˜‚. Our room was not comfortable enough to sleep restfully, but maybe we got the ā€œElite Memberā€ discount room, because the bedding didn’t even feel like it’s Marriott’s brand šŸ‘‰šŸ¾šŸ‘ˆšŸ¾. So your experience might be better there than mine. During the conference, someone had to be fighting the equipment in the gym and losing, because it was so disruptive to the meeting that some of us chuckled. I, myself, chuckled in jet lag to keep from crying in Eastern Standard Time. Overall, the staff members I encountered were awesome. The breakfast was $56 for no eggs on the croissant, coffee, orange juice, and a chocolate pastry, but it was fine, because staff made better suggestions after. Staff made everything better, actually. They can’t help that it’s an older building. They do their best and we support themā—ļø Thank you, Sabrina and Skyy, for the wonderful stay šŸ«¶šŸ¾. We hope to be back soon on business, and to book with you again!

I would like to bring attention to a few things from a recent 7 night stay at the Courtyard Midtown East in New York City. As a Titanium Elite member I will check out of this hotel quite disappointed. The air conditioner didn’t function well and after repeated requests for maintenance, and reminders as they usually went unanswered, the room stayed at an unacceptable 80°. A fan was brought to the room to ā€œhelp cool it down.ā€ No offer to relocate us, no apology for inadequate equipment, barely even an acknowledgment of the problem. Also, I had to request coffee for the room every day because housekeeping neglected to refill that along with the shampoo and body wash bottles on the wall. A hotel room with 31 floors needs to have more than one functioning elevator. The letter posted outside the lobby elevator bank saying there is an event and elevator service may be ā€œslowā€ is fooling no one. I spend 120 plus nights a year in a hotel. I choose Marriott for most of them. I am also Diamond with Hilton. I feel that every person checking into a hotel room deserves functioning equipment but Titanium Elite needs to garner some sort of appreciation. There needs to be some reason to continue to choose Marriott and this last week gave me none.

Stayed here as a family of four for 8 nights over Easter.|Arrived at the hotel to find ourselves in a Junior Suite with King Bed and pull out double bed. Room 2804 on the 28th floor was a large and spacious corner room with some great views of the city.||Room|The room itself was large. This was one of the reasons we had opted for this hotel out of the hundreds of options available, we had ready many reviews saying the rooms were on the large size for Manhattan and we could not agree more. There was plenty of room for us and our 2 young children and we never felt like we were in each others way or on top of each other during the stay. |The room had great city views, a large modern tv and good consistent wifi. There was plenty of room for our luggage and ample drawer space. The bathroom felt a bit dated but did have a bath as well as a shower and everything else you might need. There was a good size fridge in the room and you could get ice opposite the lifts. Also had a coffee machine in the room with takeaway style cups.|Beds were very comfy and we were very happy with our room choice.||Breakfast|When booking through Hotels.com we did. It actually realise we had breakfast included and had planned to get some cereal and bits for the room so it was a pleasant surprise to hear that it was included and would be served on the 12th floor during our stay.|Breakfast was served in the Starbucks style cafe and could also be ordered to go. It was a really good breakfast, we really enjoyed everything we had from the menu. The breakfast bagel and breakfast croissants were great, the empanadas were something I hadn’t had before and they were nice and then there’s the porridge, waffles, pancakes and assorted pastries and muffins. All really good and fresh and served with a smile. It really was a great surprise that we had breakfast included and I’d recommend adding it on if you book.||Location|We found the location of the hotel to be really good. You have 2 different subway stations within 3/4 minutes walk, one of which being directly opposite the hotel (there is an entrance on the same side as hotel but this was closed during our stay). |You are also within walking distance of Times Square, Central Park and Roosevelt Tramway. |There are also plenty of places to grab a bite of food around the hotel. We mostly used things for convenience like McDonalds which is 5 mins away. There’s also Chipotle, Panda Express, Schnipper’s and plenty of other places. Xeno’s pizza and La Bellezza pizza were also good.||The hotel also arranged for a car to take us to JFK when we were heading home, this cost a little more than a yellow cab would have done but the journey was much smoother and more relaxing. There is also a luggage store which staff will help you with.||To summarise we would definitely recommend the hotel, especially if you are travelling as a family as the rooms are of a good size and the location is perfect to get the most out of the subway. Also worth noting that the rooms were cleaned everyday if needed and there were no...

TL:DR room had stains and holes in carpet, uncomfortable beds, beat up furniture and not good AC but excellent location, stellar view, and nice staff.

Upon check-in we arrived at our room to find that the cleaning staff had just finished (we assumed), as the furniture was moved out to the tile area like you would for vacuuming. No big deal, we put it back - and in doing so we noticed the stains and holes in the carpet, and the cracked and beat up back of the desk chair. Our room also had an absolutely breathtaking view of Manhattan, so we shrugged and started unpacking, thinking we would deal with it later. A knock upon our door announced the arrival of a very confused looking housekeeper holding a carpet cleaner - he obviously had not expected to find us here. He retreated, and a few minutes later a woman who I assume was the head housekeeper appeared to explain to us that she had planned to take this room out of service, but had not been quick enough to do so before the front desk gave it to us. She then assured us it was clean and ok, that she had just wanted to shampoo the carpet. So, having already unpacked, we were confused but ok - it was time for us to head out anyway for dinner. When we returned, we noticed that the AC was blowing cold air but the room had not cooled down. We contacted the front desk who sent the maintenance man, who also confirmed that the AC was working. He left and returned with a box fan, to help push the cold air into the room and away from the window - the box fan then began it's 5 night and 6 day marathon run for us on top of the AC unit. After the first night of sleeping on the terrible beds, we awoke aged 30+ years and crept to our pain killer supply to tend to our backs - I've never had a bed hurt my back every single night I was in it like these did. No breakfast included in our stay, so luckily for us there was a great restaurant around the corner, so we grabbed a bite and headed out. We returned to our room around 2:30pm that day to find that housekeeping had yet to stop by (this would become a pattern), hung out for a bit to escape some of the heat and headed back out, requesting more pillows to try to fix the bed issue. It didn't help. On the plus side, no bugs here, never felt unsafe, and the staff really were kind, if not always up to the performance standards I would have expected given the money I'd spent. We would not stay again though until the rooms...

I have stayed at this hotel multiple times and it is a great location. The great location is the reason I am willing to overlook any complaints Ive had in the past and continue to book this property. The rooms are rather dated and a bit tired but nice enough. The reason I have to give a terrible review is their absolutely unacceptable practices that completely contradict Marriott policy. I had to change my check in date on my last trip several months before my arrival and months before the date provided by Marriott as when you will be charged a cancellation fee. However, when I attempt to cancel using my Bonvoy app it informed me I would be charged a cancellation fee so I had to call the location and have them cancel the booking without the fee that they should never be attempting to charge on the app. While I was annoyed the first time this happened I had put it out of my mind until my most recent booking. I typically plan trips several months in advance and decided to book a trip in early March for the first weekend of September. As always I ensure I book a rate that does not require a deposit and has a standard cancellation policy of 3 days before arrival which is typical Marriott policy. Because I often book 5 months or more in advance I want to ensure I can easily change dates if plans alter as my trips get closer. A few days after booking I happened to check my credit card statement to find I was charged a $250 deposit even though the app clearly stated I was not booking a rate that required a deposit. I decided because I was over 4 months away from my check in date and nowhere near the 3 day cut off for a cancellation fee I would cancel my reservation to ensure the deposit was refunded and book elsewhere. I had forgotten about my last experience until again I was told by the app if I cancelled my reservation I would be charged a $250 cancellation fee. Again I had to call the property to have the reservation canceled without being charged a fee that I should not be charged. This is purely sleazy business behavior and not how Marriott properties should conduct business. While the location is wonderful there are multiple other Marriott properties within 3-4 block that are just as good of a location that doesn’t use sleazy tactics to try to over charge unsuspecting and overly trusting customers. I recommend The Lexington Hotel on 48th and Lex as an...
