Read moreLaila is a huge win for the South Shore. A welcome addition to the whole slew of repeat restaurants we have access to on Page Ave and the surrounding area. Alan Dakhlallah is a cut above other Middle Eastern food chefs because he takes your typically common dishes and makes them better. He's also a Master Host, gliding from table to table to ensure that everyone feels welcome and to offer "try this" options on the house.
You'll check the menu, you'll order what you know and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much better it tastes here versus other ME restaurants. BUT be sure to try everything he recommends. That will be the win for you and for him because next time you visit, you'll order it again and again. Hummus, yes. Awesome. But Hummus with freshly made Shwarma on top? Score!
Kibbeh, lamb-filled pockets of bulgher wheat that are deep-fried and fragrant with spices like cinnamon and cumin? Sure. Had them. Know them. Okay. Usually always dry everywhere else so I it's not a first choice for me, but when Alan shows up with a freshly made dish of Kibbeh that you didn't order, you must eat because he knows it's going to stupify you - moist, tender lamb inside a deep fried Kibbeh. It was amazing! A cut above everywhere else.
Kibbeh Naya - chopped, raw lamb brightened with fresh mint and served with fruity olive oil - is one of my favorite appetizers anywhere. It's hard to get it wrong until I tasted Laila's. It was so right and so much better that I realized it was wrong everywhere else. it's an acquired taste but if you can get past the idea of eating "raw lamb" like you do sushi, go for it.
Whole fish Branzini is amazing. The mixed grill - another common ME restaurant item - better here than anywhere else. And you can't go wrong with any appetizer. Expand your horizons and go. You won't be sorry. At the very least, Alan will make sure you have...
Read moreIt is unfortunate that I can only give 1 star to this restaurant. We’ve really enjoyed this restaurant and the food. We have been patrons since they first opened the doors and were on a limited menu. We have brought and introduced multiple people to this place as well. It is so mismanaged that I can no longer take it. We recently had a reservation with other people on a Saturday night and ended up waiting 2 hours to be seated. We stood in the parking lot for 2 hours and they actually forgot we were there waiting. We’ve ordered multiple times online/by phone and never received the food then after calling to check was either told they didn’t see it due to their system or the latest answer, they “stopped accepting delivery orders” for the day. Today we called and asked “are you accepting delivery orders?”, was told “yes if it’s in by 7pm”. Ok we ordered at 5:20, only to be told “they’re no longer accepting delivery orders and they were refunding our payment” they arbitrarily just stop accepting orders at random times! So for now we will no longer be customers of this restaurant. I don’t understand how a restaurant during these uncertain times can turn away business? Let alone give you back you’re money! Again the food is really good but the mismanagement is astounding. Other than food a restaurant is supposed to offer an all around good customer experience not a stressful unsure one. They’ve been open long enough to have better systems in place. I’m hoping they can get a handle on...
