While we were just told about this beautiful new library that just opened up when we were visiting my children's grandparents. We are avid and frequent library visitors because I want my children to not just grow up with the love of books, but know their is a community out there that allows them to do free activities and learnt the dame time. We decided to give this library a try this morning because they had a kids reading and other activities event at 10 am. I read on their website first come, first serve with limited capacity. So we got there at 9:30 to learn that they will not let you in until they open doors at 10 am. So, with about 20 mins or so to spare with two excited children, I had to burn their energy and take them for a walk. We got back at exactly 10 a.m., and they opened doors, let a certain amount of people in and said they reached capacity. Leaving a bunch of sad children out who do not understand why they were not included. I understand that for fire safety, the SMALL room they chose to do it will only allow to accommodate a number of people. But it is 10 am, the library just opened and you have another large room. The manager needs to learn that you do not exclude children. You accommodate for the crowd of people that actually want to come to your place. They could have moved the reading room to the bigger room that would have accommodated the entire group and not left our about 8 children. It's bad enough people don't go to the library, but when you have people coming, you do what you can to support them and accommodate for every child. From the looks of this, this place does this weekly and leaves children out. So try telling you infant or toddler. Sorry, it's the luck of the draw. I certainly will not be coming back to this library anytime soon. Hopefully, they will reevaluate, or I'm sure those other parents will be likely to get fed up and do the same. Beautiful empty library, what a shame.
Let's not mention they had some books on display for my toddlers to want to grab because they were specifically placed out for them, and when I start reading, it's about a child that is transgender. How dare they. Do not push that on people and their kids. You could have a section on it for those who want to believe, but do not shove that stuff in my children's faces. They are kids who do not need to learn about adult...
Read moreFirst time here and never coming back. Group of four of us were silently studying and had a bag of chips that we were eating at the study table and she asked us to go somewhere else to sit - okay, fine. We later read the sign that says no messy food allowed…. Super specific. We move to a different room and she comes in asking us to leave because it’s reserved for the other 3 ladies sitting there. The 3 ladies tell them they don’t mind us being there and the manager insists on us still leaving even though the ladies who reserved the room didn’t mind it. We ask why are we being removed if the ladies don’t mind it and she is still insistent and says “well I am the manager and I’m telling you to leave”. This was completely unnecessary as the women in the room were happy for us to stay. Manager needs to be removed ASAP for her rude behavior and senselessness....
Read moreCharleston Library is the newest library that I know of. I found it by accident while I was gallivanting around. It's extremely convenient for me since it's the closest one to where I live. I also didn't realize there was a park close by there for a while. The staff are extremely friendly and amiable here. As the most recent library that I know of to open, it's equipped with most of the modern amenities expected of a library such as air conditioning, I do have to bemoan the lack of black screens to go hide what I'm looking at on the computers. I actually tend to have some luck seeing old friends of mine from High School here. My favorite thing about this library however is that it has an ample selection of Italian literature to read so when I go there I typically find myself practicing my Italian on some of the...
