I’m so disappointed. My friends and I grew up at Page Diner. We went there on a practically weekly basis for over 10 years. It’s become our go-to spot. Recently, we noticed a change in management alongside a significant drop in quality in both food and customer service. That being said, we kept going back anyway for sheer nostalgia. That ended today when we came for soups and cheesecake for probably the 100,000th time in our lives. As usual, we asked for pickles and cole slaw alongside our soups and our waitress brought it out no problem. When the bill came, we noticed we were charged $10 for said cole slaw and pickles. (I’m not kidding). When we brought it up with the manager, rather than apologizing and admitting to the mistake, he was condescending and rude while he told us that cole slaw and pickles “only come with food” and that “soups and cheesecake don’t count as food” as well as telling us to our faces that charging us $10 for cole slaw and pickles is “common sense”.
Alongside all that, he completely disregarded the fact that we mentioned how we’ve come here for over a decade and have NEVER had this problem before, despite how much “food” we got. Instead, he simply told us that all those years, our waiters/waitress simply “made mistakes” by giving us cole slaw and pickles for free. Seriously, I wish I was making this up.
The owner/manager took a small mistake on the bill and rather than simply apologizing and fixing it, he turned it into an issue that caused him to lose about a dozen lifelong customers via his rude and obnoxious attitude to his customers.
Also, as a quick side note, feeling that it’s “common sense” to charge $10 while treating customers the way he did over some cole slaw and pickles is a clear sign that this owner likely has absolutely 0 managment experience and has never stepped foot in a real...
Read moreUsually love going here as well as love to order. I rarely write reviews.
When I order the counter girl is always very nice to me.
On 8/30/24 closer to 8:30 pm- I ordered and went to pick up prob 20 minutes later. Walked in and the girl at the counter was on the phone and purposely I guess facing the other way to avoid people. I saw nothing and said nothing; I just waited till she got off the phone (already noting her being rude because she in fact ddi notice I was waiting and proceeded to not turn around right away after hanging up the phone)
I did give a look when she turned around she said "Hi" and I said Hi I am picking up. She said give it a few more minutes rudely.
Said nothing more focused on the next.
I guess something about my presence must have bothered her because she was way way more friendly to the people behind me paying their bill.
Food came out from another girl that they were about to hand it to a delivery guy until he said the name and the girl coming out with the food hesitated along with the guy. Finally the nasty and not so friendly counter girl said -oh maybe it is his. They were about to give my food away and probably would have if the uber guy didn't say the name.
Any way - I wanted to say this on here because I felt it needed to be said.
I truly love the page diner just not how this hostess counter girl treated me. She should not work in food/service if that's her attitude...
Read moreI don't know what happened. They used to be the best diner around I used to go biweekly. I ordered a medium sized order (about 100$) and when I got home with it I realized they forgot my bagels everything. They gave me a toasted bagel wrapped in foil and that was it. I ordered a bagel deluxe (creamcheese, lox, onion) and got just a bagel. They charged me 20$ for a plain bagel. I went back and asked for them to make the bagel and they told me "that's how we do our bagels here" which is fine, if they had included everything with it. I am appalled that they charged me 20$ to make my own bagel when I could have gone to hot bagels on the corner and had the whole thing made for about 15$ Ever since covid this place has been a dumpster fire. They used to be open 24hr now they close whenever they feel like it. No wonder they have such a high turnover lately. It's a travesty what happened to this diner it really used to be one of the best on the island. They need to reevaluate what they're doing otherwise the whole neighborhood is going to stop going here. I know my family and I will not...
