Who needs bananas when there’s banana soda?

To many New Yorkers, meeting a Guyanese-Indian “West Indian” is second nature. They’re everywhere in NYC.

But step outside of NYC, in the smaller towns of the states, they’re much less common. I grew up in suburban Massachusetts, and I honestly never met a Guyanese person for the first 18 years of my life. I’ll even admit that for all those years I thought Guyana was in Africa...I know, slap me in the face.

Many Guyanese were brought over from India as indentured servants to Guyana. Surprisingly, they kept their Indian traditions over decades, as well as their religion of Hinduism, and brought that over to the states. I’ve met many Guyanese and they are very proud of their background. Amen to that.

Little Guyana in Richmond Hill is packed with Indian dress stores, West Indian eateries, echoes of Indian music blasting everywhere, flags waving in yhe air, Guyanese-Indian temples, and bakeries. This place reminds me of Little India in Jackson Heights, but much larger, cleaner, and unique.

Little Guyana is located off the last stop on the A train on Lefferts Boulevard

And if you’re wondering, banana soda is pretty damn good. They’re found in every deli in Little Guyana, so you’re in luck

My husband bought a drink called Whiteway's Cydrax from Little Guyana Bakery yesterday. Afterwards, he started vomiting and having diarrhea. When I checked the bottle it was expired since May 2015. Tell me how this bakery is selling expired products 9 months prior. This goes to show that they dont keep check of their products and expiry dates. I am going to file a complaint about this bakery. I have my receipt and later today Im returning to complaint in person about the expired product so no one else will suffer food poisoning. Im sure there are many more of the same drink in the refrigerator that are all expired without their knowledge. I dont advise anyone to shop here but if you do please check all the expiry dates. I cant believe they are up to date about their products. Im very concern for my husband's health, and due to this he has to take off from work to go see the doctor. Never shopping...

The trini cashier super rude and disrespectful. She was on the phone the whole time talking about someone's husband didn't pay me any mind. Dropped my items on both sides of the register and didn't even pick them up I had to ask for her several times for items I purchased that land on her side. She shewed her teeth and trew it at me . Spend $136 and was even given a bag option. Lucky I was parked right infront the store and have plenty in the car. We had no words because her conversation on the phone was far too important and this is 9am in the morning 6/22 . These places need to at least acknowledge the people buying because each store sells the exact same thing customer service is what will set things apart. I will not return and would have left my items if they weren't already paid for. Sadly we know the owner from back home but the standards of these workers get...

Need to invest in training people to work the baked goods counter. Aunty , you’re rude and have a paku mouth! I come heh fa ova 20 years now and eyeyuh still nah change yuh dutty attitude! LGBS is the pride of this community as one other customer described it, and I would agree. I implore the owners to improve on making it a better customer experience so we can send the next generation into the shop and not have them cringe and complain to us the parents about how they service suck! I gave a lenient 3* but it was difficult at best. I know plenty people a guh buy yuh product and yuh na care wah meh a seh. Unfortunately look at the other business which came before you and see their failure like the other bread shops in the 90’s. Do you want to be a legacy or a has been like Sybils?
