Great food and place. Service can be improved.

I went to Lolita in December, while visiting NYC from London on a business trip. I had the pastor and suadero tacos, a Mezcal Negroni and a Michelada. The food delivered! It’s made with authentic, high quality and fresh ingredients so you can taste the authenticity but at a next level. I was very pleased with the suadero tacos in particular, as these are not easy to find. Yet, pastor which is more common, tasted like an upgraded version of anything else you usually have. Cocktails was great too, their own take of the classic Negroni, and they have a good selection of mezcal bottles. The michelada, while they have their own mix and it’s very good, it felt underwhelming. Probably the lack of ice on it, but couldn’t bother to ask for more it to be fixed. Which takes me to my only criticism, the service was not what you’d expect for a good quality dinner. I was sitting at the bar by myself, along with few other customers, they had a couple of people behind the bar who could easily manage the workload. Yet, their response felt quite slow, I had to get the guy’s attention a couple of times to get whatever I needed, even water. Which was a bit annoying to be honest.

All in all, good place to visit. It’s on the pricey side of Mexican food in NYC, but the taste is totally worth it. Expect small portions - normal at a good quality place. Venue is cool too, classier than your regular Mexican place, enough space and good ambience. I would have put a 5 stars review if it wasn’t because of the service. Quite below NYC and...

I've been here and and had two different savory cocktails and tacos. The savory cocktails are among the best Ive had. The Umami Bay is complex and filled with true layers of flavor. Highly recommend this cocktail I can't say the same abiut the carnitas tacos. Great quality of meat, however the ones that I had were underseasoned unfortunately. I ate them becuase I was starving. I did give feedback and hope they make adjustments.

I would go back to have the cocktails.

The dishes and many of the drinks are on the menu are on the high side. I don't know much about this type of liquor agave and sugar cane dustills. So if that's the market then that may be the cost.

The bar itself had a good vibe both times I have been. The staff very friendly and courteous from the host to the servers.

They are relatively new and sister spotnto Valerie the gin bar next door.

Umami Bay

UMAMI BAY oyster shell washed reposado, fundy gin, acid adjusted orange juice, mole, habanero, avocado pit orgeat, egg white substitute a three-dimensional sour, inspired by the complex ingredients of a mole a mole

LAS MINERAS banhez ensamble mezcal, fino sherry, elote liquor, clarified enchilada water, sofrito, maiz, angostura inspired by the enchilada that fed the miners of Guanajua

The deibk tasted like an enchilada..which was great without being overpowering with the food aroma.

5 stars for.drinks and service 3 for the food, however, based on one dish. So that's a caveta ..def will update after aongo back try...

I would highly recommend Lolita for a night out, It’s such a beautiful space! The upstairs section has regular dining seats and its own bar. We ordered the Carne Asada and Birriar Tacos for our entrees, the cut was juicy and well seasoned, my partner enjoyed her tacos. The server recommended I get the sweet plantains as a side and I’m happy I did (ate it as dessert)! I tried the birriar old fashioned, which I found to be a unique take on the classic, would highly recommend. Management stopped to check in on us, which was a nice touch. Overall it was a time well spent! Go to Lolita! I would highly recommend Lolita for a night out, It’s such a beautiful space! The upstairs section has regular dining seats and its own bar. I really love this Mexican restaurant, with its happy food and amazing ambiance! P1 is nachos with guacamole. I’ve often seen this guacamole in New York supermarkets but never bought it because I was hesitant about unfamiliar things. Tried it today and it’s so delicious! The subtle 🥑 avocado flavor paired with the crispy and fragrant 🌽 nachos is a perfect match! P2 is seafood chowder. I’ve always loved creamy seafood chowder! The ones I’ve had before were super thick, but this one is lighter and not as heavy. The layer of vegetables on top balances out the slight richness of the cream. The ingredients inside are surprisingly abundant! There’s all kinds of baby octopus, squid, shrimp, and other things I can’t even name 😂😂. Highly recommend it! This little place completely changed my impression of Mexican food being unappetizing! (The first time I had a taco, I thought it was awful.) So don’t let past bad experiences create a bias, or you’ll miss out on such delicious food!! Happiness! 💛😋 #MexicanFood #FoodieAdventures #GuacamoleLove #SeafoodChowder #FoodDiscovery #HappyEats #NoFoodBias #DeliciousFind
